Well, at long last, it looks like we're flying out to L.A. tomorrow morning to begin the adventure of picking up the Aussie Daytona and driving it from California to Michigan. We've got stops planned in Las Vegas, Grand Junction, Oklahoma City, Conway and Indianapolis. And if anyone would like to meet up with us along the way, that would be way cool. We'll be posting update pics from the road each night and keeping everyone posted of our progress. We're also bringing back a 1972 Aussie Ford Falcon so we'll have two vehicles. I know it's nuts driving two totally unknown 30-plus year old cars back cross-country but it's gonna be an adventure that we're really looking forward to. That's about it for now. Much more to come!

Goot luck John. If you have a breakdown out west where it's 150-degrees, think of me & our Rare Iron years, & do your best to remember, it's DRY heat!
Drive safe & watch out for coyotes if you do any night driving - they come out of nowhere.
Bring plenty of drinking water with you at all times. Can't wait to see them cars. I can't believe that Daytona is the movie car!

Yeah... you do that! Keep us posted! I'm being sarcastic since I'm one of the fortunate few that will get to talk to John many a-time while he's on his way back!
The best of luck to you guys. Godspeed be with y'all!

I agree, have some fun but, not too much! You ever saw what a careless wrecker driver can do to a Daytona or Superbird? While being directed by a torqued off Police Officer because you were going a "wee bit" much over the posted speed limit and he's miffed because you have his favorite car and he can't? Well, me either! Lol! But that may well be the point! Don't have too much fun and find out the hard way. Seriously, have fun and be safe! Chuck West

Am I missing something? Whats this about the Daytona being a movie car?
The Daytona was briefly in the Aussie movie, Running On Empty I am not sure if it was ever released over here, but I got a copy ages ago from Oz. (you need a multi format vcr for an Aussie videos of course..)

Hey thanks y'all for all the kind words! FuryIII, we'll be taking I-15 out of L.A. to Las Vegas and then I-15 again to I-70 in Utah to Grand Junction. From Grand Junction, we will take Highway 50 to Highway 550 which will connect us to I-40 in New Mexico. We'll take I-40 to Oklahoma City and Conway. Then we'll be taking I-55 to I-57 which will connect us to I-70 which we'll take to Indianapolis where we'll take I-69 to I-94 back here in Michigan. Sounds simple, don't it??? DG, it does sound like a lot of fun, sure hope the Daytona and the Falcon hold up! DB, it was way cool meeting ya at E-Town. I was gonna come back and hang with y'all later in the day Saturday but I reckon we all know what happened when the skies opened up! Sounds like a plan for Carlisle! Oz, see ya at LAX! Eric, thanks for all the tips. I never went with ya on any of them trips but I remember y'all's stories all too well. Looks like it's gonna be around 105 in Las Vegas! I will holler at ya as soon as I get back and be getting with ya to pick up a set of them way cool chambered Powersticks mufflers from ya for the Daytona. And if anyone wants to check out some wickedly cool mufflers for any application, y'all need to visit www.classicchambered.com and download the audio files. These mufflers are awesome! 73Chally440, yep, like ol' Oz said, the Daytona did indeed have a little bitty part in Running On Empty which was also released here in the U.S. under another name that I can't recall. Maybe ol' SunroofCuda will know... Barry, you just don't know how tempting that is! A drive up the coast all the way to Alaska would really be an adventure! If we had two weeks to do all this, you could probably twist my arm into doing it pretty easily! Thanks Dale, I'm sure we'll be calling to you many times over the next several days! Chuck, thanks and I hear ya all the way. 440 cubes of Mopar muscle in a winged car out in the wide open desert and you want us to behave??? Actually, we're gonna do our best to keep things within a "few" miles per hour of the legal limits! Beeper71, updates with pics could come as soon as Wednesday!

Best of luck John, I have driven across country when I was on holiday and it is cool trip what with all the different scenery and such, take a pic of the car at the Hoover Dam if ya go that way, that would be cool!
Have a good safe trip, and remember if you feel tired, you are, take a break, it's better than breaking the car!

In the U.S. 'Running on Empty' is known as 'Fast Lane Fever'.
Hope that helps.

apm, you know your movies!
"Fast Lane Fever" is a pretty cool movie. A fellow movie nut in NY ran a copy for me years ago which I still have. I believe it is listed in the Blockbuster movie catalog, but it is WAY into moritorium (extinct). John's Daytona was red/orange with a black tail.
The blind guy in the black '57 Chevy made the movie - he was great!
