Anyone know what the correct length is supposed to be on the spare tire stud for a 70 cuda with space saver?

Just went and measured mine, overall length is 6". Not totally precise as it's still on the car, but real real close.

This seems strange indeed as I was told it should be longer. I don't know if it'd be long enough for the rim then baseplate then bottle etc. The spare itself is like 5.5 inches right? Then the baseplate and bottle bracket seems awful tight. I have to buy the jack stuff or I would already know if it works or not. Just want to save myself alot of pain and suffering by finding out in advance.

I don't know if this is correct or not, but it's the one that came with my Barracuda.
There were 3 different rods. Maybe we can add some lenghts to the parts.

2964999 - Space saver (23 & 29) 6.5"

Some of the rods I saw a the j/y in 72-4 challenger had to have been at least 9-10 inches long and had a slight curve at the base. Hopefully someone will chime in with a definitive answer. Thanks snoop!

I'll be keeping a very close eye on this subject.

Beep that is awesome! It even looks like a K5 car! How does the hook attach and I also want to clarify that it should be a 101 hook right?

Challenger had the hook on top, Barracuda was under the tire.

It looks like I may have a Convertible / Challenger rod. Now I have to come up with the shorter Barracuda rod.

beepbeep-I have the same pic in my manual-so I guess my car probably came w/14's originally, my stud sounds like the one K5cuda was talking about-about 10" long and a curve at the base-don't recall seeing these but haven't been looking either-and if my car got 14's-it wouldn't have been a space saver spare-this thread got me thinking-Joe

Are the rims backspacing different for a mid 72 & up spacesaver? I tried to put all my stuff in with the tire right side up and I can barely start the threads and my spare stud is exactly 6" long.

I also need to see pictures of the jack and iron and how they fit in with the spring etc.

K5CUDA,
Can you post a picture of your spare? What size tire and are there any markings near the valve stem?

My digi camera's battery is dead right now or I would have already done it. I can go look on the rim later and get the numbers. Just seemed odd that beep's tire looks like it fits much better and the only thing I can think of would be a slight difference in backspacing perhaps.

Do you have pictures of the jack assy. and iron hooked up? I can't seem to find any that show the original stuff.

Okay, here are all the numbers:
Goodyear G78-15
DOT seems to be CUO 038
M87 Stamped between the stud holes
M87 and 9 to the left of the stem and an 8 to the right of the stem.
369917 stamped in the rim above the stem.

Let me guess.. It's probably off of a 1975 gremlin or someting like that would be my luck.. I was told it was out of a mid 70's volare or aspen.
