I have always run a regular 18" fan water pump driven,, Now that i have added a vacum pump, the drive manderel is in the way of a fan, I have to switch to electric. SO, i see a lot fo 16" fans in Jegs etc, what is a good cfm rating??? 2000? Yea its a big block, and used to run about 180-ish with a 180 t stat on a hot day so,,.,,,

I always thought you wanted 3000 CFM of airflow through the radiator core for proper cooling...and to use a fan with a shroud so that you're pulling air through the entire core, instead of just an 18" circle
my big block dakota has a single core aluminum radiator that's like 20"x24" and I have a 19" electric fan on it with a shroud that's around 20x22, and it cools me down just fine.

How much room do you have between the waterpump and the rad?
My 68 Dart with an RB doesn't have alot of room there, so I had to offset the 16" fan towards the driver's side. Not ideal, but what can you do? Don't really want to cut the rad support to gain extra room.
The HHR setup is a good one though, and can be ordered from your local chebby dealer for about $60, and comes with a shroud.

You want ATLEAST 3000 cfm if you ever street drive it. I had a 16" zirgo that pulled 3000 cfm and it wouldn't keep up. Partially b/c of the radiator I had at the time, but the 2005 Viper fan I replaced it with does a MUCH better job. I have a big Griffin radiator now so no more troubles. CHIP

and try and find a fan that covers the complete core I looked at an HHR fan but it was too small to cover my whole rad so I ended up with a fan assembly of a 95 Caravan fit the whole core and pulls a ton of air.
70 duster full chassis super pro 416 CNC Indybrock heads 727 w/brake
best so far 1.212 60 6.219 in 1/8 at 110.88 9.768 at 137.81 1/4

the hhr fan fits a summit 27.5 radiator very well. how big is your radiator?
