My daughter's boyfriend has a 2001 Jeep ( Cherokee?) with a V8. Check engine light is on, failed emissions. Code is P0344, "Camshaft Position Sensor A - Circuit Intermittent B1". Vehicle runs fine, but light keeps coming on after he has it reset. Anybody know what it will take to fix this and what it might cost him? Thanks.

V8..... prob a 4.7. Shot gun a cam sensor at it if you’re not up to pinning out circuits or doing lab scope runs. Chances are in your favor that it’ll take care of it.

Agree^^ Worst case is a t-chain but that normally sets a cam/crank correlation code.Throw a CMP sensor at it and hope for the best. Good luck!!

Just to clarify, is it a 2001, or a 2011 like the title reads? If it's a 2011 with the 5.7, yes, very good chance the timing chain asm. will need replaced, but the easiest thing to do is toss a sensor at it if you dont have access to a scope( sounds like you do not)

So is a sensor a big deal? Any idea what replacement costs? My daughter and her man are 100 miles away. They are gonna need to find a shop to help.

The 2 vehicles I've owned from that era that threw those codes were both under warranty still, but, I took the liberty at the time to see what was involved cost and work wise. I think the sensor is $100 and it's a 10 min job.

I will clarify also, without going back and looking at google for the answers, I think there is 2 places for the sensors. The faulty one on mine were the one on the front pass side of the block.

About 5 years back there was a very hushed global recall on many of the 5.7 equipped models that were tossing timing chains at around 30k miles. The dreaded cam code was the beginning of the end..
