So I'm looking ov over the cabbage plants in the garden and noticed the extra rings of leaves look an awful lot like collard greens.
Is that what they are? Or are collards a separate plant?
Got to talking with a otr driver earlier today about southern cooking, says it's been a couple years since he's made his way to Mississippi.
Now I got a hankering for a batch of grits and greens.

And only to be cooked in a frying pan! NEVER steamed or boiled. Um. I always lightly steam mine, and eat with nothing or just a little vinegar. I NEVER boil though.
Facts are stubborn things.

Yes steamed with just enough water to make a broth. Usually flavored with a hock or bacon chunks and a good amount of onion.

And only to be cooked in a frying pan! NEVER steamed or boiled. I got to have water included in the cooking process. After the collards are done, I sit down with a glass of delicious pot liquor...commonly known as broth to those who live in Ohio! David
