So I am looking at a gen 1 cummins, a 91.5 with 240K miles. Owner is asking 5K for it. The only things that I know is wrong with it is the front axle Ujoints are toast and the AC doesnt work. Is this a good deal or should I look for a newer one for about double the money locally? The truck is 600 miles from me and its a $200 flight. I was also thinking about getting something with a 24 valve and installing a P pump on it. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Tim

If that's all that's wrong with it, scoop it up. I wouldn't say it's a screaming deal, but based on what I see around here, it's priced about right.

how's the body.frame? Good deal if those are good. All the Cummins guys I talked to when I had mice liked the 12V over the 24.

I love my 12 valve, I just towed 825 miles at over 10,000 pounds of trailer and 1500 pounds in the bed of my 92. It's got 298,000 miles on it. The EGT's were pushing 1200* going through the mountains in Virginia and West Virginia but my truck has a lockup converter, I had to take it out of O/D and L/U and slow down a few times on some of those grades but it made it through no problems and got me home. It's going to have to make that trip loaded at least 3 more times and I'm not worried. My truck does have upgraded brakes though. That is a great deal if the roof isn't rotted to dust. That is the worst thing to fix on these trucks.

That seems like a good deal to me. I really want a regular cab 4x4 1st gen but the prices have gone crazy. There was a clean(8 out of 10) Reg Cab 4x4 5 speed here locally a few years ago. It was optioned as good as you could get them. The guy wanted $15K for it, I thought he was high. He sold it two days later so I am assume he got close to that. He also came up with another mint reg cab 4x4 and sold it quickly for big money. I am not sure how he got them but he flipped them both pretty quick.

I just looked at a 91 12 valve regular cab 2wd, auto trans, 4.10 geared Dually last week that had 236k, rust free, clean truck with fresh paint, guy wouldn't budge off of 15k, I passed, due to it being a regular cab and even though it was clean I thought it was a tad high for a regular cab 2wd. shruggy

IMO going to depend A LOT if ANY rust issues .

I dont see many 1993 or older cabs out here. !!!!!!

BUT, there was a 1999 24 valve truck advertised locally a few weeks ago , quad cab , auto 2wd, for $6900, it sold in under 24 hours. In the pics it was clean as a pin . white with grey interior.

These 2 have been advertised for a while with no sale .

I would like a newer 24 valve and install a P7000 pump, but that is a lot of work and I need to finish the Charger first...
