Tell Teddy --- that the future depends on the past, that we have to learn and appreciate all that he and the RaceGroup did so we can understand what NOT to do --- also ask him to correct any names on photos --- WE NEED HIS INPUT!!!!!

Here's that Ramchargers picnic picture. I won't try to give all the wives' names, but, from the left, that's Tom Hoover, Doug Patterson, Troy Simonsen, Jack MacPherson, Dick Burke, and Skip McCulley. Don't recall the older gentleman.

Tom held the records in C/GA with his '57 Plymouth, Troy liked to play with his flathead '50 Dodge Wayfarer, terrorizing the Olds and Cad V8 owners in the "stock" class, Doug and Jack were early drivers of the C/A, Dick has been of great value most recently with his documentation of those early years, and Skip went on to Pontiac and was responsible for much of the success the big engines had in the Tempests.

I don't remember if someone was asking where the Mowtown Missile Challeneger is now or if someone provided any info, but there was a big article on it being passed around and finally restored VERY accurately. It is in the Aug. 1993 issue of Mopar Action. A gentleman named Jim Madden bought it from Bruce Eyring of Atlanta, GA. It goes on to say that Bruce brought the car to a Ramchargers reunion at Vin Devers Dodge where Tom Hoover signed the radiator shroud. Also, that Bob Reed made a 9 second pass in it at a nostalgia event at Englishtown. (Remember, this is a 1993 article.)

I believe National Dragster also did a "Where are they now?" article on Ted Spehar years ago. But I haven't found that yet.

You know, you might be right. My memory's getting fuzzy and I have trouble distinguishing between Dick Maxwell, Doug Patterson, and Jack MacPherson. I thought I had them straight, but you could very well be right on this one. I think all 3 of them drove the C/A in the early days. I think Doug was the driver who made the first hard run at the '59 Nationals which resulted in that infamous picture of the car on only its two left tires (cover of "Cars" magazine).

Stewart, I read that story about S&M protesting Stepp in the recent book that came out about SS and Pro Stock from back in the day. I don't doubt there were intense rivalries between even the Chrysler teams themselves especially considering Ronnie's driving abilities. That would be something others would have been trying to figure out a way to equalize or overcome I would think. S&M always used the 4 speed before the Lencos came on the scene or did they ever use a Clutch-Flite or even experiment/test with one? From what little I know about those Clutch-Flites, they sound like they may have been an explosion waiting to happen...

Does anyone know the (8) 1970 AHRA Grand American races that Ronnie Sox won? Thanks.

Thanks HemiFred. I have been looking for that answer for years. I hope Jeff writes a sequel to his first book on the 1970 Pro Stock season.

Okay, let's see if I can get my names straight this time. That's Doug Patterson, Dick Maxwell, Maurie Leising, and Jack MacPherson.

Does anyone have copies of "National Dragster" from the early sixties? When this new group at Daimler-Chrysler started work on the High&Mighty clone, one of the first things they requested was a history of the records as the car set and reset them in C/A. I'm a bit ashamed to admit it, but, in that respect, we certainly didn't act like engineers. It seems noone kept track of the records and, today, there is widespread disagreement as to the car's performance. I guess everyone assumed there was some old man back at NHRA headquarters who was chiseling this information into marble slabs for the ages. Actually, when I phoned NHRA, I found that the only "permanent" record was the weekly listing in "National Dragster." Can anyone help?
