We've got plenty of members here over 50, so I'm throwing this out to you guys specifically. Twice now I've had it happen where I was laying under a car working on something, when a sudden wave of nausea comes over me. First time it happened was last year, during the summer. I figured I just got over heated. Today, it happened again, but much worse, and its not hot out. Been sitting here for the better part of 2 hours waiting for the feeling to subside. I always figured as I got old(er) I'd have the usual problems, back pain, joint pain, etc from trying to do things, but never expected this. And of course it hit this time just as I got my truck disassembled to where I can't move it (motor mounts). Anyone else have this happen?

I'm not a doctor and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night either but I'm 63 and have never had that happen to me. See a doctor please.

Might want to get checked out. You could be pregnant. Only if his symptom is accompanied by a craving for sardines, peanut butter and radishes.

But seriously, yes I will go to a Doc, just threw this out in the meantime. I've been around diabetics, and their triggers were never based on body orientation. Just the same though, I'll get it checked. From what was mentioned here and what I read online, it sounds more like vertigo. Thanks guys. Just feeling frustrated right now.

Worst case, heart attack, take an aspirin immediately ( unless you have ulcers or other bleeding problems or already on blood thiiners), right now, and recurrence of any symptoms unexplained or worse, get to ER, have someone drive you. If you have a family Dr, make an appointment first thing Mon morning, if you tell them what you shared here, they will say head straight to ER. This is not a thing to take lightly. Don't press your luck, you already have been given two warnings. I am not a Dr, these are Good Samaritan suggestions

I appreciate the concern jcc, but this doesn't seem severe enough to warrant a trip to the ER. Yes its happened twice, but 10 months apart. If it was happening daily or weekly, yes, I'd be at the ER. However, I will be calling my Doctor tomorrow. One issue I've always had that may or may not be related is that I've never been able to read while in a moving vehicle. I'll get nauseous almost instantly. Even now with google maps on my phone, if I need to do more than just glance at it while moving, I have to stop to do it. I've never gotten motion sickness in general just riding in a car though.

I think its something you ate, but you should probably go to a DR and spend a few thousand dollars on some tests and have the Dr tell you it was something you ate. Gene While possible, I kinda doubt it because of how it happened. If it was food related, it wouldn't care if I was laying under my truck.

Might want to get checked out. You could be pregnant. As with anything medical you should always get a second opinion: You could have Hot Flashes or Hemorrhoids.

Had it happen to me once/twice. Under car working just wrenching: got upright, dizzy/headache bad. Cleared after walking around/sitting. Happened day or so later. Same. Then days later, while moving stuff around, found a qt can or urethane paint that had tipped over, behind some stuff out of sight at floor level. Didn't pour out, but rather just slightly oozing from lid. Apparently the fumes from that weren't enough to outright smell, but over time lying there must have breathed in enough to effect me. Thought I was having a stroke, felt so bad. Wised me up abruptly about solvents in a shop while working. So be safe out there guys.

Suck it up and drive on, next Dr apt bring it up, do your yearly blood work and see whats up or whats not up.
I can see there is a wet noodle group that runs to the doc at every hicup that dont taste right but dang your 50, hell it could be even emotional. Just like old people sex changes ALOT that doesnt mean anything is wrong, were just aged a bit.
Go find a nice shade tree and put a blanket down and plan a nap, tell us if that action or thought makes you sick?
Maybe its these dive food joints your going to and your getting hit with the bad meat sweats and all that comes with it, who knows but with what your describing id just bring it up and keep up on your blood work.
Next time your feeling that way, think of your ex wife and let us know what happens.
You need to change your screen name to Feets2, yall always got some craziness going on.

I'm a little older than you are and I have never had those symptoms you've had. Lots of other medical issues in my life but not like yours. If I was you I would be seeing my family Dr. ASAP, you know it isn't going to go away quietly, correct No one wants to here bad news, especially the persons family and survivors when the Dr. says if only they had detected the problem early I lost a good friend to a Dr. who didn't do enough testing on a sinus problem, the Dr. ASSUME he knew enough to treat and his lack of attention for better diagnosing and testing allowed the cancer to grow and ended up killing my friend

I don't think he was asking for advice looking back at his post. He simply asked if anyone else experienced this. SOMEBODY got it. You are correct! Some people just like to pick. Thank you.

You need to go to the doctor. Oh wait, someone may have suggested that.
It's a symptom of needing another Mopar!!!

And the verdict is.......... " Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo" Or at least that's what he's initially treating it as. Basically a problem with the inner ear. The only thing is, I have zero dizziness when this happens. Gave me some meds to take for the nausea and exercises for the problem. Going to try it for a month and see what happens. If it goes away, great! If not, then an MRI and possibly other tests will be done. Oh, and he feels I need to lose at least 20 lbs. Thanks everyone.

That a great news. For those that already have experience with this diagnosis, is it common for nausea to last for hours(?) after altering the position that started the symptoms?

VERTIGO - I'm 57 and woke up one morning with Vertigo. I posted about it on here late last year. I fell asleep on the couch. I have sciatica so if I lay on my side for long my hips get very sore and I'll flip to the other side. Doctor said that probably what happened. While laying flat and moving my head face I disrupted the balance "granules" in my inner ear. I woke up EXTREMELY nauseated and dizzy like I was hung over. I mean hung over like we used to get at 20 (ish).
If you google there's a "procedure" you can do lying with you head hung over the edge of your bed to reposition those granules. After talking to a bunch of guys a few said they can't work under their car anymore. I haven't tried working under my car lately but I'm VERY cautious how fast I move my head now. It's called The Epley Maneuver.

That a great news. For those that already have experience with this diagnosis, is it common for nausea to last for hours(?) after altering the position that started the symptoms? When it happened the first time, it lasted only a few minutes. From what the Doc told me, each case is different, so how long it last depends on the individual. Until I was talking to the Doc today, I had forgotten I had an issue with my left ear about a year ago. Infection? I don't know but for a couple of days there was an itch that wouldn't quit with some....discharge. This was when I was without insurance, so I did nothing about it especially since it seemingly went away in a couple of days on its own. This might be where the current problem is stemming from.

sounds like a Richard Pryor skit, funny Not really related but a funny story.
A guy I went to high school with decades ago has become a bit of crazy old hermit. He just hangs out in his dumpy old house and smokes pot and watches TV. Anyway, he watched 20/20 or some other "news" show late one night while smoking a bunch of pot. The feature story was about people having sudden strokes. He wakes up in the middle of the night and his arm is numb and he has trouble moving it. He freaks out and calls 911, thinking he has had a stroke. They take him to the hospital and figure out that he was just laying on his arm oddly on the couch and the arm went to sleep. And of course, he was too cheap to have insurance so it cost him a boatload of money.
Some people...

I learned an important lesson 2 days ago, not that I didn't already know it but I guess I needed a reminder, don't severely injure yourself when the closest hospital is 2 hours away! I had an accident (brain fart really) with a drill and very sharp bit. It wasn't serious enough to need medical attention but it easily could have been. Worse yet I was here alone at the time. I need to pay attention.

I'm glad you found out what it was. Almost 2 years ago I ended up going to the ER because I got like that and it wouldn't go away. It was at night, I was up flipping through Instagram on my phone, in the dark. I'm pretty sure that's what triggered it. If I kept my head pointed straight ahead, it was ok, but after I went to bed I couldn't turn my head either way without feeling nauseous + dizzy. My wife drove me to the ER, of course it seemed like forever until they actually fixed it. They did the procedure srt mentioned, which I don't remember the name of. They leaned me back and reset something in my inner ear. They had me get some dramamine. I never could read in the car as a kid. Still can't! I have to look out the window to stay oriented. I get a little dizzy/nauseous on the creeper if I lean my head back a certain way, too. Thank God I didn't get that way and stay like that, I don't think I could take too much of that. I'd have to have somebody drive me to the river so I could jump off the bridge.

For 50 years I was a telephone pole and tree climber. I'd put my spurs on and go up 75+ feet removing branches on the way up, take the tree top out and then V notch the tree, put my rope in the notch and then repell down. Never had a problem.... I was also a sport parachutist and base jumper.
April 2015 I got hit by a flying car tire while riding my motorcycle home and hit the concrete barrier at 70 MPH. Major TBI. Had vertago but it would come and go. But one day in Sept 2016 I was on a telephone pole 45 feet up on my spurs hooking up a cable over a railroad crossing when vertago hit me hard. I could not look anywhere without trying to puke. My helper called 911 for the fire departments ladder truck. But I decided to shut my eyes and slowly climb down one small drop at a time. That was my very last day of outside work, I did two more weeks on light duty then retired. From that day on if I get up on a step stool the vertago hits. So because of vertago I gave up a $100,000 a year + beni's job

That must've been a helluva ride. I never wore a helmet when I was younger, but when I got a new bike in 2012 and started riding again I bought a full face Shoei.

Dang Dave! Just looking at your helmet gave me a headache! While nothing like taking a concrete divider at 70 MPH, I took a pretty good blow to the head when I was 3 yrs old or so, I fell down a flight of stairs going down into a basement. The boiler at the bottom stopped me from tumbling any further.........last thing I remember seeing before a blue flash and waking up in the hospital was "Union made in Chicago" (seriously). Laugh if you must, but, it was a hard enough hit that it left a permanent indent. (I know, explains a lot too, huh?) I was with my Mom this particular day when she went over to visit an Aunt. Part of the basement was properly finished off and used as a playroom for their kids. Their kids were big into GI Joes (remember the 12" tall ones? Those.) and I wanted to go down and play with them and I wasn't taking 'no' for an answer. As soon as my Mom turned her back for a moment, I made a break for the basement. I did OK until about the third step when I lost my grip on the handrail....... It seems kinda weird that I remember the actual incident but nothing before or after so clearly 50 yrs later.
