What is up with if you drop insurance on a vehicle you’re driving ... then you have to TURN THE PLATE IN ?

O R the State then suspends your drivers license ?

JSTA got Florida plates on my new vehicle and noticed that statement in with the plate. I realize if you only have ONE VEHICLE and that happens .... but how about if you have two or three and only drive the others on a limited basis ?

Can you maybe GET BY with carrying only storage insurance- keeping an active policy on each vehicle ?

You must have Min insurance (10/20/10?) on any tagged vehicle in Fla. Some insurance co's are very aggressive in reporting insurance removal. others take time. Time is of of the essence regardless. State sometimes doesn't understand the simple concept you only changed companies. The burden then falls on you to prove otherwise. They don't have to by law warn or tell you your DL is suspended, remember the saying "driving is not a right", so due process is not required. Best to "surrender" tag BEFORE dropping insurance, and be sure and get a DMV(?) hard copy receipt , and hang on to it, since the whole process can take months to straighten out. Unfortunately there is not "parked" insurance coverage offered that I know of in Fla. Also understand, a tag you have not "surrendered", expired say ten? years later, is still considered your responsibility for tolls, etc, until you report it stolen or lost in a police report. All a big hassle. I have plenty of experience with the above.

But if you turn in your plate it costs 175$ to get it replated ?

Is there an agency that can and will work with you on this ? ... I might have as many as four vehicles plated ... the scatpak ... a bike... motor home and a tow vehicle- older pickup...

On heavy trucks, if you turn plate in prior to expiration, they credit you if you replate during the same year, plus the process costs, and the new plate, like $37?
Car/PU tags get no credit, and the new plate is $37 plus the full year renweal cost. The only upside is one is not likely paying Insurance when you surrender your tag

How about on a antique or veteran plate ?

What company have you found to be the most fair? Is it better to deal with one that has a local office ?

I can't answer as to antique or veteran plates.

I do know that old plates from year of vehicle are a little problem, as nobody wants to "surrender" a unique special numbered plate, and are forced to keep insurance on vehicle until plate "expires". There might be a way around this, but its up to local tag agency.

I in the last decade have only dealt with my local county tag agency, they are fast, no lines, and easy to deal with, so who other to recommend is not something I can suggest.

Here in nEw yACk to cancel your insurance on a vehicle you need to turn the plate into DMV. The receipt is printed in duplicate and the ins co gets one half.You could wait a month to send it to your insurance company and they must use the date on the receipt as the cancallation date.

Pennsylvania wants the tag back if you cancel the insurance for any reason. Enforcement of penalties is hit or miss. It used to be $500, suspension of registration privileges, take your license. With the people in charge up there now, it may have been changed to them showing up at your house, dragging you out in the yard and giving you a beating.

I can drop it off with my insurance agent and they send it back for you.

Really Doc!!! So you don't think people buy insurance to just get a tag and then cancel insurance to go out and crash into you and you'll never be able to collect on the damage to your car!!!

Here you drop it they take ya Licence. I changed from Condon and Skully to Grundy. and Grundy told the state I had coverage. Condon out of spite kept telling them I had no insurance over and over. I would get Grundy to tell them and out of spite, the Bastages would report me. This was years back and I received paperwork to be part of a class-action suit against Condon but never a follow-up
Now "The Loophole" here is to never get any so that they can not report you.
