That kind of goes with what I had thought about maybe many of those guys. Thought some had already developed a rep doing their own racing or building and the old 'friend of a friend' thing comes up and that's how they get connected to a team or the Mopar race program. I think that's how Carlton got involved wasn't it? Just by word of mouth or a known reputation? For me anyway, I see some of the stuff those guys were doing and what those cars became tech wise and just thought they didn't come from ordinary everyday automotive work tuning up Ramblers at the local garage, lol. I don't think you get involved or even invited to be involved with a rpogram like that without some pretty in depth pre-experience and maybe a hefty rep of your own to boot. Just like Jenkins, he wasn't your avergage mechanic himself, with a mechanical engineering degree from I believe Cornell Univ to top it off. Just curious as to the backgrounds of some of the guys I mentioned and how they got involved with the Mopar program in the first place. I had noticed in a good number of the aforementioned articles I have collected over the years, that Spehar for example seems like he was everywhere, built the motor on this car, transmission of that one, whole car on another. Looks like he was an all around race car guy with knowledge of just about every facet of the car, and maybe alot of those guys were like that as well.

'Red Bandit'? I remember the 'Red Light Bandit' Bill Bagshaw, but not sure who 'Red Bandit' was/is. Give a few hints Steve. For certain, I don't know who it is.

Barry and Mike from Hamtramck Registry have opened a new photo section. The majority of these photos are never seen before photos of the Mopar Missile. You all are cordially invited to stop in and take a look. Missile Historical photos are my passion, if you have any, let me know. I will scan them to a disc and return the disc and photo to you, FREE. All I require is that I be allowed to put them on the photo section and share them with the rest of the Mopar Fanatics.

This is somewhat related to Chrysler racing people/history. I didn't realize this, but there is a relatively popular weather calc/comp program racers have been using for years, and still are, that makes corrections for weather conditions, etc and it was apparently developed many years ago by Tom Hoover or someone in Chrysler R & D under his direction. Was looking for some info on Jere Stahl on the net, when I read some thing about it and thought it was pretty interesting that something first developed(and by Mopar) so long ago was still being used, as a computer program is is known as 'Weather.exe' apparently:

"The history of this program goes back to the early Mopar factory race group headed by Tom Hoover. It is our understanding that Tom asked George Wallace (who was a Chrysler engineer at the time) to come up with a system that would allow them to correct for weather conditions influence on engine power and resulting car performance. A magazine article (including charts) that may be used to manually correct appeared on page 95 of the August 1972 issue of Hot Rod Magazine. This program has no consideration for track condition, altitude change of the track or for wind conditions.

The Hoover group carried a laboratory mercury barometer and a wet-dry bulb made by George Instrument Company. The system and algorithms were turned into a computer program for a Radio shack Model 100 at the direction of Arlan Fadley. Any time you have heard Warren Johnson make reference to a run correcting to such and such, he was making reference to this program. Arlan was kind enough to provide us with a copy of the model 100 source code and we turned it into an Intel Pc based computer program. We have over 2 years of data from a well known pro stock team who ran the same set of cylinder heads for 3 years and are very comfortable that the program is produces reasonably accurate results for the intended purposes."

Well I recognize Ronnie Sox and Buddy Martin and the man at the far right next to Sox looks to be Arlen Vanke(?), all but the man in glasses look familiar. Butch Leal younger guy sitting in front(?). I seem to be able to recognize alot of these guys when they are older than old pics when younger. Go figure...one thing for certain, all are sure to have been Plymouth Team drivers, so guess yer best from there.

Jeeze, I didn't recognize Koffel. The guy you're not certain of vaguely reminds me of Roger Lindamood, but I'm sure I'd be wrong on that one as well lol. Are Grotheer or Miller involved in any nostalgia racing these days at all Stuart? I know you had a recent photo of Grotheer with Buddy Martin and Dick Oldfield. Hard to peg some of these guys in the older pics with the crew cuts, lol.
