whoops - sorry about being slow to answer --- as for the Volare - I might have been built by Carlton and Clyde

I believe it belonged to Ed Lukas and was a Carlton creation.

And now to Fred-what happens with one of these 25-30 yr old cars when you try to get it certified with NHRA/IHRA? I seem to recall reading that saving weight back then led to abundant use of thinwall tubing that would be under-spec by todays' standards. Du you re-cage the whole thing?

Hello folks,

Again, awesome thread!

I was browsing over at the HAMB and someone asked about the H&M. The funny part was some young gun called it a not so high and mighty slur and the rest of the members e-stomped him, lol. Take a look!

HAMB link

I will link this thread to the HAMB as well.

Thanks,

2t

Who has more Canadian photos from early 70's? Alberta and British Columbia. Lets see the Cuda's. That Keystone / Bison Dragways site is soooo cool! Thanks for the great photos.

I recognize a couple folks in those pics Stewart, but not all. Can you put some names to the faces...also, someone earlier in the thread mentioned asking Mr. Spehar if he might drop in to the forum sometime. Any luck with that?

Dick Oldfield was the initial or first driver of the Missle cars before Carlton came along isn't that correct? Did Oldfield still race anything else within the Mopar fam or what exactly was his part in the Missle program after he stopped driving? I guess a second part of my question would be where did guys like Spehar or Oldfield come from as far as their involvement with the Mopar race program. I assume neither of those 2 specifically were 'in-house' engineers so just wondering how they got hooked up with Mopar. I've got quite a number of old articles with Ted Spehar being the builder of a plethora of Mopars in the 60s, of course the Silver Bullet and even little ole C/SA 273 Darts, so he must have been a pretty sharp guy and quite an asset to the race program. I assume most of these guys weren't just some neighborhood shop mechanics they found off the street, lol.

Here's a story about one of the Ramchargers:
From what I was told, One of the Factory cars at one of the races was having some troubles, Carb I think. Allen Adams went over and solved the problem. The Factory employees who were there were impressed and that's how he became part of the Ramchargers. This is what I was told from a team member of a car he helped with in the late 60's-late 70's. This might be correct and it might not be.
