At least I didn't so, especially now........ anything related to the funeral industry. My Ex works for a (national) company locally as a director and mortician. Everyone down to the grounds keeper got their hours cut. They are more than busy right now. Makes no sense to me (or her). EDIT: Took out my pay comment, because at least she's working, regardless of amount. Sorry to those not working, hopefully things will turn around soon.

I haven't worked in a month. Want to talk about losing a chunk of income?

I haven't worked in a month. Want to talk about losing a chunk of income? Yeah, sorry, I meant it as more of not expecting a cut. As stated, didn't seem like the profession to get cut backs.

Funerals are pretty much verboten now so there goes most of the help. The crematorium I'm assuming needs a limited staff to operate and regular burials don't need much more than a mortician, a backhoe and a Padre. Kevin

In New Jersey we can't be near anyone else so we can't have a funeral if we wanted too and no unnecessary traveling after 8PM. I imagine they have to keep the staff levels at extreme minimum inside the buildings to keep distances. Probably just a few max.

Oh man, I am so sorry to hear this. Whether this hi-jacks things or not, you have my sincere condolences. Must be extra hard in these times, can't gather anyone, get closure or whatever. Losing your dad. That's very hard. A college friend lost his FIL yesterday. Same heartbreak, same "no visits", just terrible. - Art

The funeral business has changed. My aunt died right in the middle of this about a three weeks ago. We could not gather for her funeral even in West Texas where we have very few covid cases. We’ve have 90 cases here with only 1 death. My aunt did not die of covid 19. The family could only cremate her. They all live out of town or the state. I had to go to the funeral home and pick up her ashes. They were closed to the public. I called the funeral home when I drove up outside and they brought out a shopping bag with a box in it. They were wearing gloves and mask. I rolled down my pass side window and they placed it in my truck. Not knowing anything about the funeral home or employees, I did not want to take the “bag” home. so, my aunt is sitting in the drivers seat of my 70 Charger RT at my secured shop. I think she would get a laugh out of that.

I imagine they have to keep the staff levels at extreme minimum inside the buildings to keep distances. Probably just a few max. My mom passed last Monday. This is the 7th funeral I've arranged or had a big hand in, and it's been odd. She planned on being cremated. Funeral Home would allow a visitation, but only 10 people and had to follow Comrade Whitmer's rules. Passed on that. FH sent me all of the paperwork to sign electronically, never set foot in the place. No visitation, no burial of remains until this is over, no out of town relatives to schedule around, no dealing with the church for a service or a meal...

When I went to the center there was only one receptionist and only two other people in the waiting room. And I am talking about a multi-disciplined, high volume medical center that has dozens of doctors. I am actually glad I went as I felt safer from exposure there than at the supermarket. And I got to spend some quality time with the doctor. Too bad there couldn't be a shift in some of the nursing staff. Though I doubt any nurse who signed up for an elective surgery job would want to swap into an emergency room or ICU type role.
