Is your filter box back toward the firewall? That's where the battery was on my '06 and the filter box was right behind the core support. Like this picture I found.

How about adapting a cheap cold air intake system? They aren't much more than a couple of pipes and an air filter. Good ides, stumpy. I did a "BHAF" on my '06 Cummins and actually picked up 0.5 mpg with it. Tim

I just added a second battery to my '08 GMC. Keep in mind that modern EFI vehicles use "Smart Charge" regulators incorporated into the ECM. This system saves fuel by automatically reducing the full power charge current after the first 30 or so seconds in order to improve fuel economy. What remains is often insufficient to keep a second battery fully charged after moderate to heavy accessory use. If you plan on using one of the AGM constructed batteries, they require 14.5- 14.7 volts to charge and live for their full life expectancy. Initially, I didn't realize this and was going to use an old school Battery Isolator as I had done on my old '68 Power Wagon. I then learned about the Smart Charge feature all newer vehicles have. After some research, I came across a component by Sterling Power that allows the system to provide a constant, adjustable charging output voltage and isolate the battery at the same time.
