Hey guys I know I can't be the only guy with a problem with the 360-1s intake runner higher than the valve cover rail . I noticed it when I first put the engine together and I cut and trimmed one set of gaskets to fit and fill in the gap and put another gasket on the valve covers. 2 gaskets thick. It has leaked a little from day one but after going back under the valve covers a few times it leaks horrible. I tried some new gaskets but it leaked bad enough yesterday they kicked me off the track. I thought about taking the intake to the machine shop and taking about 1/8 inch off of the runner but that's pretty scary. Has anybody else run into this problem ,? 360-1 with and Indy intake.. Thanks Only one pass yesterday but a new best of 6.51 @104.8

I had the issue with my W-5 intake ... at first I tried the VC 2 gaskets but that didnt work so I pulled the
intake and milled both sides
EDIT
I use the cast covers and I thought the covers were to wide and hitting the heads but it turned
out to be the intake height was to tall
wave

fel pro makes a double gasket that has a thin metal frame. It worked good on my W2 heads with the same problem, didn't look like it would seal but it did with no trouble and I re used them many many times. There was lots of meat on the intake so I ground it down and smoothed it out recently so it is not as much of a problem now.

Here is a link to the gaskets

Yes sir I have so I bought two sets of spacers sold to lift the covers higher. They take a little grinding for pushrod clearance but work great. I’ve had two or three different posts on here with the link in the post. Do a search but I will try to find website if I get on my desktop later.

Thanks for the advice everybody. I think I am going to take the intake down to a local machine shop and get 1/8 inch of the top of the intake runners That will get it level with the valve cover rails. Maybe one gasket will work then. Still have to trim the valve cover gaskets for the pushrods though. I have to say that is some poor design work ..

The raised runner is 90% of the reason the heads and intakes flow better than Edelbrock and Edelbrock copy heads. These would help your issue. They work GREAT.

What valve covers are you using? I have the fabed aluminum covers that I assume come with the head package. I'm using the laminated Fel Pro gaskets that have been mentioned already. They had to be clearanced for the push rods, I glued them to the valve cover and haven't had a leak in over three years.

I had to purchase some taller valve covers off of EBAY so I am sure that could be part of the problem. How thick are the gaskets that are mentioned ?

Fel Pro lists them at .313".

Thanks for all the advice , I figured the cheapest way was to go with the felpro gaskets. I sure hope they work !!!
