A lot of stuff's been cancelled or postponed:
Sebring 1,000 Miles
McLaren's participation in this weekend's F1 race - and maybe Haas' as well
Bahrain & Chinese F1 races, probably also the others in Asia
The NBA season
Public attendance for the NCAA games

BIG financial impact, worldwide.

This is the new normal.

All of it goes back to one place. They need to be put on an island. No benefit to doing business with them outweighs the crap.

Wow, have regular tickets bought every year to go with group of friends.Decided,on Monday, to skip the event,do to age and recent kindney surery recently. Those bleachers are jammed, with no room to move or breathe.Just read John's post of the event cancellation. Big financial loss for a lot of participants,and disappointment for a lot of spectators. Great climate and performance, being at basically sea level. Next year!

If the goal was an economic setback ahead of an election, they're succeeding.

It's actually an ingenious idea.....overhyping of a typical flu season that was bound to be a little worse than the last few years due to a slightly warmer than normal winter.

Let me ask, does anyone here personally know of anyone that has the "china flu"? (or what they're calling it now.....wuhann, corona,covid)

Why do they have more deaths in just a few weeks.. thats not counting other countries.. I think a bunch

more deaths than what......a typical flu season? how many deaths are there due to the flu on average plus what are the highs and lows per week every year? without that little detail, we don't really know if this is bad or not.

I guess we should just trust what we're told cause the press NEVER lies or leaves context out.

we always look for and need details when it comes to our common hobby.......why not when something like this comes up?

I don't really know why (other than maybe some tinfoil hat theories) but the worldwide press still has some hype powers.

let's have a discussion on this in a couple of weeks about what really didn't happen as far as the actual virus goes.......I have no doubt of some lingering economic (some real and some falsely blame) setback.

I think a large part of the precautions is because it's hard to tell who's carrying the virus.
Everyone's seen somebody who just coughs or sneezes openly.
Over-reaction maybe, but nobody wants to catch it and nobody wants to be LIABLE either...

Whether it was a bit of "engineering" in an election year is intriguing, but it's basically world-wide & beyond that scope.
All the losses being suffered should arrive at China's doorstep, but I wouldn't bet on it yet.

Personally.. no.. but in Mich we only have 3 people so far in the last 2 days and they are in the U of M hospital

I've asked that question numerous places a few times the last couple of days and it's been the same answer......although I personally had the flu a couple of weeks ago and I had all the usual flu symptoms with some odd chills, I'm still vertical. (it did seem to hang on for quite a while) I don't think it was the corona.....maybe it was the Cordoba virus!

It was able to salvage Sunday’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg from cancellation, but it will be an IndyCar industry-only crowd.

Not since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 has the sports world been universally threatened by something so big. This time, it’s a pandemic caused for the COVID-19 virus.

Working in conjunction with Mayor Rick Kriseman, Penske Entertainment CEO Mark Miles, race sponsor Firestone and other key health officials, the race will go on without spectators. No one from the general public will be admitted to the grounds.

Non-essential team members are being sent home.
