this looks tempting for a future build.

I kinda like it!

if you're worried that the conversion would deteriorate the WJ's structural rigidity, Smyth Cars said that it will add a huge B-pillar reinforcement plate and a subfloor bracing system that connects the bed floor to the front bed wall. The sides of the five-and-a-half-feet long bed are also made of 1/8-inch aluminum plates that connect the wheel well and spring perch areas to the b-pillar plate.

Actually looks like it could have been factory when it's finished.
Just needs a cove in the rear bumper cover for a license plate.
Wondering how they address the rear door/quarter panel.

Grandshero? Cherokamino? Nameplates could be fun...

Based on their other kits, it looks like the make fiberglass quarters for them.

i have had my eye on his PU conversion kits for a couple of years.
i am subscribed to his facebook page.
i would love to do one. but it's not in the cards for me right now.

his other kits almost completely cut off the 1/4 panel and leave the wheelhouse on the car for support. you then POP RIVET, with mono bolt structural rivets, a structural support to the B pillar, and then rivet supports the rest of the way back to the tail gate.it gets attached to the wheelhouse flange and the little metal left after you cut the sheet metal off. the tail gate bolts to the supports. you then attach fiberglass panels for the rear 1/4 panels. there is a fiberglass formed panel for the rear window that attaches to the roof with rivets and body structural 2K bonding glue.

before everyone starts getting upset about the rivets and glue holding everything together. this is exactly how a lot of high end European cars attach their structural aluminum front subframes to steel body rear sections. cars have been built like this for over 10 YEARS without any problems if they are repaired correctly.

supposedly you can build a kit in 40 hours not counting paint time.
this guy does one in a weekend. here is a 30 min.( classic rock sound track) time lapse pic video of someone building a Jetta kit for a idea on what is required for the job..
