So I've been making and selling parts now for about 12 years. Been selling on Ebay all that time and have never had someone request a return and actually return used parts instead of the parts I had sent.
I had sent one of my steering column rebuild kits; Mopar coupler guts, Mopar steering bearing, DMT black coupler seal, DMT stainless coupler cover, DMT stainless coupler clamp/retainer wire and DMT rubber bearing isolator. I sell these for $69 plus free shipping.
On his ebay return request he said "This items are grossly over priced. The individual components can be purchased in separate auctions for less than $30 dollars." He included pictures of a steel coupler cover with the wrong orange seal for $18.99
Told him if he was disappointed to return at my expense (ebay allows him to print a return label on my dime) for a full refund. I saw that he returned and there was tracking showing it was on its way so I refunded the money before it arrived. Even if it had arrived and I didn't refund the money Ebay WOULD have because "the customer is always right".
I could see the customer shopping after the fact and seeing he could have bought some crap cheaper and returning the parts he bought. But if he bought the crappy couple cover and seal and guts; $18.99, a steel wire retainer $7.95, a Chinese bearing $10, and a rubber isolator $8 + 2.86 shipping (from me cause I'm the only one making these) it'd still be $47.80. Not $30 like he says. But in his defense he actually got the good stuff for nothing and I paid $3.50 shipping both ways for him. So my parts will look and work great on his yellow TA. He obviously used my parts. But who actually goes out of his way to insult me and return the used parts. What kind of scumbag does that?

Even if it had arrived and I didn't refund the money Ebay WOULD have because "the customer is always right". And that right there is the problem. Shady characters are wise to the fact they CAN and WILL get money back just by saying there is a problem even when there wasn't one. This played a part in me getting fired from my last job. For the longest time, if a customer placed a paint order with us, then claimed something was wrong after the fact, there would be a little investigating to determine if we did actually screw something up.or there really was a problem. Not anymore. Without a single question asked, if a customer claimed there was a problem and demanded a refund or replacement product, the blame would be placed on the store by upper management, and the customer would get what they wanted (usually paint). AND, to make matters worse, the customer would usually be told to keep the bad order. If they complained loud enough, they'd end up with their 'wrong' order, their 'correct' order, AND their money back. Needless to say, certain people started taking full advantage of this. It's still going on.

I am a firm believer in Karma. Might take a while but this individual will get what he deserves.

HOPEFULLY he will pull this stunt on someone who has nothing to lose and shows up at the address on the return label. Nothing to lose Reminds me one time there was a butthead driver by me. I yelled out the window at him. At the next light he got out of his car. i got out of my Challenger. He yells "I HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE". Told him to have a good day and I got back in my car and waited for the light to turn green. PS Thanks guys. I tell the wife every day how lucky we are to be dealing with such a great group of guys! That I look FORWARD to every car show. When we are at the shows and I'm busy with customers a guy will always walk up and pump my arm and say what great stuff we have. Almost looks like I pay them to do that at just the right time

So who's the thief? Post his info for all to see. Wouldn't ebay do anything when you sent them pictures? Regarding the guy with NOTHING TO LOSE, you could have replied, "Yes you do... your health and your life". Morons like him are why I don't carry. I DO have too much to lose over some worthless POS.

Hardly something to murder someone over, or even sending threats via the Internet, which can also put you into legal trouble. I'm also glad you don't carry if that's what sets you off. To the OP, your return process seems to be overly generous to the buyer. If he stated in writing his reason for the request was because he found it cheaper, did you state the return would only be granted based on the return of new unused parts? Even if eBay would grant a refund, why send the money before you had parts in hand? If you have his responses in writing and your stipulations on the return, would eBay really ignore a box of junk being returned?

One of the many reasons that selling on Ebay is almost not worth your time. My buddy sells quite a bit of stuff on there. The other scam is they will order something, claim they never received it (even if you have tracking information) and Ebay will refund their money and deduct it from the seller's account. Hard to make a go of it on there anymore.
Never, ever argue with an IDIOT. They will drag you to their level and then beat you with their years of experience

Ebag is the wild, wild west. I try my best NOT to do any business there. But occasionally I have to hold my nose and buy there. I certainly don't sell there anymore.
Why o' why in this day and age is there not a viable alternative to that place.

Mail him a box of dog crap, or a glitter bomb, or better yet, see if he sells on Ebay, buy whatever it is, and then leave him negative feedback.
Earning every penny of that moderator paycheck.

I'd like nothing more than to do that but in this effed up world that we live in now people can trash you online and put you out of business literally. I really am glad I'm nearer the end of my life than the beginning. So many things AREN'T getting better.
WOW, I say the same thing, after 46 years in business it is getting worse. I am glad 99% of customers are a dream to work with, the 1% are real asshats and always think they are right, and will beat you out of your cash. We have raised the prices to just stay even with the credit fraud, it is all you can do.
