It's OK. They are selling recreational MJ now with a 35% tax. That will fix everything.
Buddy of mine says to me yesterday "I hear they are selling recreational MJ across the river now. I guess that's what you do when you are broke and desperate--you sell drugs.."

Don't know about up there but down here the contractors are overwhelmed with the projects the state is doing this year. Lots of people will be employed fixing roads and buildings that haven't been touched in years and new projects too. They definitely need the infrastructure work. The only decent road I know of in IL is 145 out of Metropolis toward Harrisburg. They've repaved part of it, how far I don't know. The pot tax won't help, it'll only line someone's pocket for a large part. Didn't they just double the fuel taxes this past summer? From what I understand the taxes on alcohol and tobacco are outrageous too, along with property taxes. I live near a border town that has a station located at the foot of the border bridge that is always full of cars with IL plates buying gas, smokes and beer. I'm sure that there other border towns that are enjoying the business IL's taxes bring them. A friend of mine and I shoot every Wednesday night at a club there (I won't even touch those laws) and one of the locals we shoot with told us there were something like 350 IL residents moving out of state every day. True or not I don't know, I could see people trying to escape the communism though.

The Marijuana dispensary here in town had to stop selling to recreational users and only sell medical due to low supply and staff having to work 15 hour days. People waiting outside in the cold for hours trying to get in. Local news here loves to show the long lines every day and interview people about how many hours have been waiting in line to make their purchase. Makes me wonder how these folks get so much time off work....

That will cause more people to leave the state, those people will move to other states that are doing well, they will then vote for the same type of people who screwed up the first state, that state will be ruined and they will repeat the process. They are like locust, flocking, destroying, moving on.

I have ideas that there may be some lobbying involved. Rental companies, moving, hauling companies all could benefit from having less privately owned trailers kicking around. Re road taxes. Unfortunately the big tax generators (States like CA and NY), and individuals with assets (homes, cars, trailers, etc.) are easy to levy fees that go into a fund to be disbursed by legislature. Fortunately only general funds can be spent wantonly. Fees generated by gas tax and license fees are earmarked by legislature for specific things. BUT, the govt has found a way to creatively ply "and other related uses" written into most laws. Therefore Busses, Trains, Parking lots, trails, bike lanes, landscaping etc sap $ that should be maintaining streets. I've very nearly time the populace of the u.s. do as our forefathers and lobby for users of facilities to be charged an appropriate fee to offset the operating cost. And, no more. Subsidies need to end. Too many of the working/middle class are expected to shoulder most og the countrys needs while welling populations at either end of the economic spectrum pay little or no to enjoy their lifestyles.
