wondering the same thing I ma fitting a larger set of radials tonight and they siy very tight, would expect more clearance needed for bias vs radial to allow for tire growth, have heard that you should allow for 1 inch of tire growth with bias, so this would mean a minimum of 1/2 inch clearance at the front, not sure what is needed additionaly to allow for the tire wadding up on launch ?

My Charger runs the thickness of my index finger (~5/8") from the tire to the front of the wheelwell where it tucks in at the bottom. I have no signs of contact with my 28x10.5 M/T ET Drags.

The clearance needed is dependent on the car and how fast it runs, a 12 second 112 MPH car can probally get away with 1/2 inch or so, a car that runs 125 MPH needs more like 5/8 inch or more like 67Charger is saying

Jesse,
Clearance from the inside of tire to the spring should be at least 1/4" if not more.
Since you really need to run 3 inch studs you can adjust the clearance with spacers.
You can buy spacers usually in 1/8", 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" thickness's.
I've seen one 68 Cuda with S/S springs and 8" rims and at least 275 tires and he only had about 1/8" clearance at best, but he had stock lug nuts and no spacers for clearance.
He was chewing up the inside of the tires.
