Finally finishing up my 68 Cuda build. Can you recommend a drag race only front tire for the car, brand and size. I'm running a 32x15 in the back. What diameter would be right for the front? Also what width wheel should I use?
I'd really appreciate the advise.

Drag race only front wheel widths are traditionally 3.5"-4".

Tire diameter will affect your reaction times a bit. All else done equally, a shorter tire will provide slightly faster RT and a slightly slower ET. Taller tires provide slightly slower RT but slighter faster ET! Try to figure out what size will help in the direction you need. In bracket racing, RT's are more important that max ET.

It looks better to fill the wheelwells, front & rear, but very short tires don't always look good. 28"+ front tires may cause clearance issues with the front fenders at the lower front and/or insides.

Brand? I've always tried to use the same brand front & rear tires (Hoosier). Race front tires are lighter. But if your watching your nickels & dimes, any similar needed sized brand of race or street tires will work. But stay away from radial fronts. Depending on the car and set-up, radial fronts can cause handling issues.

For best results, rear wheel width should be around the same width as the tire tread. It usually allows you to run slightly higher air pressure while still maintaining a flatter footprint and extend tire life by reducing sidewall flex. (i.e: I run 10" wide wheels with Hoosier 9" radial rear slicks.) My wheel brand choice is Holeshot Wheels. Good combination of weight & strength with a wide variety of offsets & styles available.

Locomotion- Thanks so much for all the info. First thing I’m going to do is measure to see what diameter tire will fit. Really like your wheel. I was all set to get a Weld racing wheel which is similar to yours but with just regular circles. I thing yours look better.
Thanks again.

Thanks. Holeshot Wheels aren't cheap, but they do rival the quality and durability of the other lighter, high end brands, plus offer some advantages as well. The photo shows a billet one piece, only available for the front. But I believe all of the styles are available in their less expensive 3-piece design. The 3-piece offer the advantage of repair/replacement of any piece that may get damaged instead of replacing the whole wheel. I'm partial to the Pentastar design because I suggested it to them.

The front tire/fender clearances could be tricky because suspension travel, particularly on turns, can affect the measurements.

Good luck.

Depends on how heavy the front of the car is, how fast you'll be going and what size brakes you have. I used a Weld 17 inch rim on the front of my Duster since I needed to clear the 13 inch diameter front brake rotors.

I can't speak for '68 Cuda wheel openings, but my Duster runs 3.5x15 Flys with 7.10 Morosos on the front.
Tires are just under 28" tall.
13x31 on 12x15 Flys on the rear.
Front fenders are trimmed back about 1" at bottom front corner to clear the tires.
It's run those sizes forever (sig pic & attachment).

After looking at many cars, I think 26" tall on the front of most A bodys is about right.

I use to race NHRA stock class, I've seen many early, pre 1970, A body with front tires and rims form 24 inch tall on 3.5 wide rims to those with 4.0 wide rims and 760x15 front tires(about 29.0 inches tall)
It is your car so you need to like what you get up work
If I was drag racing the car foot braking it I would go tall on the front tires twocents

So a bit of a noob question to throw in here
Would the aspect of the wheel not affect the F/R weight distribution a small amount?

Aerodynamics would be pretty adversely affected by too nose up or down as well?

Weight distribution and weight transfer would be affected little, if any. As for aerodynamics, torsion bars or coil-overs can be adjusted to compensate and achieve a level or slightly nose-down stance.

Browse through some catalogs and websites for wheels, pick something affordable that grabs your attention. If you currently have wheels, double check the fitment to see if you need to make a backspacing adjustment on the new set of wheels. A-bodies have a tendency to track too wide in the front so that the front tires stick out near or past the fenders and don't look quite right, so depending on your front brakes and suspension you may need a front wheel with more backspacing such as 2 1/4".

26" tall front tire is what you want for an A-body. Any taller may rub the fender and anything shorter doesn't usually look as good.

On my old '69 Dart I had a 15x3.5" or 15x4" Billet Specialty wheel with 1.75" backspacing, I bought the Hoosier 26" drag tires because they had the narrowest sidewall and kept the tire from rubbing the fender.

27x15 Goodyear front runners are an absolute nightmare to mount if you decide to go that route. Goodyear recommends heat and a Cheetah to get them to mount correctly. My Duster uses a 26x15 on a Centerline wheel at 27.5 psi and works really well at that pressure.

26x4.5 on a 15x3.5 with 2 1/4 backspace, that’s key imop as like said above I’m super picky, I don’t like my wheels in the front spaced any more out than needed.
