https://www.reuters.com/article/us-fiat-chrysler-recall-idUSKBN1X4286Sample quote The Italian-American automaker said the recall covers trucks from the 2014 through 2019 model years after finding microscopic cracks in some Exhaust Gas Recirculation coolers. The injuries occurred when customers attempted to manually extinguish engine compartment fires. End quote

I suspect the engine was fine as it was designed for and used for many years in boats. I would bet that the adaption to road use and the major re-tooling required for all part manufacturing, assembly, testing, etc, due to the major increase in volume is where things went wrong.
- EM The EcoDiesel is not the first over the road application of this motor. Maserati for one has used the 3.0 in a twin turbo, Non EGR variant. EGR's are a huge issue with these, many owners have had multiple cooler failures and the EGR sticking open leads to the plastic intake manifold melting and burning the truck down. I have had zero problems but the only reason I still own it is the factory emissions V08 recall gives you a huge extension in emissions warranty. Kevin

Extended warranty is nice, plus 3 months until paid off. 19 to 21 mpg city in an extended cab 4x4 is nice. Torn whether to keep it or not.

Like many I opted to not go through the recall as the majority of trucks that have had the "upgrade" lose performance and mileage and are often times difficult to drive due to extreme delays in throttle response. The strange thing about the upgrade is the inconsistency reported by owners who's trucks have gone through it. Extended warranty aside, the better option in my opinion is the GDE or other aftermarket controller upgrades rather than the "factory" upgrade.
- EM I'm having an Issue with my new 2500 Cummins and a rear diff wine, I'm scared to death to take it to the dealer because I know the first thing they will do is cut it's nuts with a new program. Fairly common practice for them. They try to mask an issue with a deprogramming so to speak.
