I just took delivery of my new slicks in an effort to get the
car, at least rolling and ready for a drivetrain. Uninflated,
measurements appear to be in error but, SOMEBODY is getting
a phone call on Monday.

I'm sure it will all work out but, why would somebody pull a
"pair" of tires that are marked this far apart?

They are not as far off as the picture makes them appear. (without being mounted)

My problem is, I'd think they could still get a closer match if they have several to pick from.

I don't particularly care to be stuck with them if there's an 1" difference, after they get mounted.

Are you sure that is the uninflated measurements? I had a set of Hoosiers that were numbered off like that. When I called them they said that number means nothing to consumers. Its a 60 psi hot inflation check that they perform. When I mounted them and set air pres. they were the same size.

hmmmm.............I'm sure their measurement was inflated.
My check, uninflated only shows 1/2" difference. (94 1/4"-94 3/4")
They should be 97 1/2"-98" anyway.

I'll be sure the tire manufacturer and I have an understanding
before these get mounted.

Hot sun??? I wanted to put them on the car before June.

I was counting on them being 31" in diameter too.

At least Phoenix says their 13" x 31" are actually 30.6"

They are Mickey Thompson tires that I bought through Summit.

I called Summit Customer Services shortly after recieving them.
They told me, the slicks are sent to them in pairs and they ship
them out the same way.

There's a note on the slicks (label) to call M/T Tech line if they
are more than 3/4" difference in circumference.

I don't expect every single tire to come out identical but, feel
if they go to the trouble of measuring every one.............they
should be matched much closer, especially for the price.

Phone number please?

If I can't get this worked out to my satisfaction with a phone call
tomorrow, Summit can send a call tag for these.

Contact M/T (Cooper tires) and complain to them, ask them to have Summit contact you about replacing them. Drag tires that are that far off are dangerous in a car with a spool, you may want to mention that to M/T rep that you speak to As far as the Summit persons comment on pairs of tires I'm sure every pair is bundled together so they don't get seperarted before the customer recieves them the last I heard is that Summit buys tires from Cooper and M/T by the railroad car loads

I got a set of M/T's from summit a couple years ago that had a 7/8" difference. I called summit's customers service and and he told me up to 3/4" difference would be fine. When I explained that the pair I received showed 7/8" difference he said that he'd send another pair and a pick up tag . The very next day , the new set shows up that had a 7/8" difference between them, but they were the two exact sizes that I had previously received , so I could choose between which size that I preferred to run.

Well, I called M/T Tech yesterday and was told they do not ship
slicks to Summit in pairs but, in bulk. I sort of figured that.

Next call was back to Summits Customer Service. Apparently the
first guy I called Saturday just passed the buck and hung up. No
note was made on my order of my complaint.

I get a different guy this time..........UPS showed up a few minutes
ago with a pair of 97" & 97 1/4" Much Better.

that's also what ex pro stock racer Tony Christian say's to do also.

If you want to stretch the short one, fill to 60 psi, set in sun, then bounce it like a basketball. That will help, but in my circle track experiance that is not going to make up for whole 1" circumference difference in inflated cirmcumference with the psi being the same for both.

That's whats nice picking tires out of the tire bin at the track (rules say we have to). Hoosier and Goodyear started to mark the tires sizes at the factory at psi a couple of years ago and it's been real consistant. Years ago we had to tire tape tire after tire in that hot sweety bin.

on a hoosier tire they refer to that as a "chalk mark" after the tire is built it goes on a machine that blows it up hot and gets measured and marked that way the tires can be paired and sold. i would not even think of mounting up those tires with that difference in size. on all of my super stock cars the tires have to measure within a 1/4"(mounted with 12# of air) or i will not use them.

i had a customer with a hemi s/g car that just about rebuilt the chassi trying to get it to leave straight it would go hard right every time it left, i asked him to measure the goodyears he was using and they were 1 inch in difference, we installed a set of old 14.5 32 firestone firehawks just to try it out and it went dead straight.

hope this helps.

Thanks Jimi........I did get it resolved. New tires are 1/4" apart.
Summit took care of the original mismatch, as I figured they would.
I was trying not to build in any problems.

You have to be Crazy!!! to buy from Jeg's or
Summit. You guy's are lucky to have Harlow tire
to take care of you for your tire needs.

In the Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa area we have
T-N-T race shops and they deal with tires in pairs
and not this bulk crap. And once again, they are
cheaper than Jeg's and Summit. And Jon know's
tires. He needs the best for his wild 6 second
Pro Street/Mod 64 Nova.

Again!!! Do not buy from Jeg's or Summit!
untill you call these guy's first.
