is there any difference in the valve core used with a tire pressure monitor on a wheel as opposed to a regular valve stem ? i got a used wheel for my sister's car, and it has the TPM unit on the wheel, but no valve core. this is my first experience with these sensors. TIA as always.

I don't believe that they are the same, but will fit and work. Because of the potential corrosion, I always put a dab of oil on the threads both inside and outside of the stem. That is if the stem is the screw-on style.

I thought I read that they used a nickel plated core. I believe it is something like that. The design of the core is the same, but the TPMS cores are of a different material to supposedly reduce corrosion. We have interchanged them for years with just a drop of oil and have never had any problems. We have seen far more problems with the nut seizing on the stem so that always gets a drop of oil too when we assemble them.

Anyone know ANY WAY to eliminate these pesky things ? On my 05 they will light up on a slight outside temp change. THEY ARE WAY TOO SENSITIVE. Well.................................Some people take them out of their tires and put them into their spare and just put the spare to 40# or so. Kinda eliminates the spare's usefulness unless you drill holes in the spare so that you can actually mount the monitors. And then there's this; https://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207651
