Good Afternoon Everyone,

I am having a problem spraying this color (1971 Code K6). Locally, it is only available in Shopline JB (Code 2312), which is
PPG's low end paint.

It will not cover, no matter how many coats we put on. We had a different gallon mixed, same result. They claim it is the nature of the color.
Car was completely sealed, but we had a couple of spots we had to fix in between coats and they are showing through.

My question is, has anyone here ever had this problem? Is there any recommendations for a better paint?
Selection is limited in this area.

Thanks,
Jim

Some brands are like that, basically low-solids.
Try tinting the primer/sealer you're spraying over a similar color.
You'll have to experiment with some spray-out panels.
You want to watch mil thickness on the car.

Jim, I am not a painter, but I am interested in the outcome of your project. I have a GK6 1971 Barracuda on which I am replacing the rear valance with a recently purchased original panel. I too have purchased the PPG shopline 2312, but that is as far as I am right now due to other repair work. The paint that you see on the rear of the car is original.

I've sprayed this color in the past real PITA!, you need a uniform color base/shade value primer or sealer, no spot repairs or overspray of color bands from pre jambing, otherwise you'll have the situation your in, and no amount of coverage/blending or fogging the area in is going to work, IMHO you need to "start over", you may also need to re-evaluate your spraying technique/approach, and when doing a whole car, I would avoid doing it with any of the panels off the vehicle, try to paint the entire vehicle as a whole, much like the factory did, pre-jamming is ok, as long as back taping and aperture tape techniques are employed... this color is like spraying candy paint, you really need to be focused on your coverage, overlap and pattern spraying techniques and panel to panel start/stops
