I came across 2 cars tonite- 69 Dart and 63 Belvedere. Not worried about looks. With a 440, both cars weigh about the same +/- 50 lbs. This would be a strip car that can still be driven on the street. I've got a 440/500 HP with a 727 w/2.75 1st with TA "J" converter and 4.30 rear. Shoe horned BB in the A or a bit more room with the B body? At present, I have no preference. Who has what and what ones is better, if there is such a thing?

I love A bodies, but the 63 would be a lot cooler. Everybody has an A body.

I would add........the cooler the A body , the less room you will have for anything under the hood.
It gets snug in the early A's.
I'd lean toward the B body , and I have a '65 Dart.

I'd go with the 63 if it's a 2 Dr.

I've had both with RB transplants. A-body was definitely a tighter fit, plug changes were more of a hassle, the '63 & '64 were surprisingly tight on the right side compared to the later Bs.
A has a little more room in front than early B, unless you set back the motor & trans with later K-frame and modified trans mount, which also really improves weight distribution.
Both bodies are kinda nose-heavy, B has the longer wheelbase of course but they seem to hit the rear tires pretty well. A-body's easier to pitch-rotate on big tires.
Early Bs have more rear tire room than Darts by a significant amount.
The early Bs can certainly run Nostalgia classes because of the Maxie thing, not sure about a '69 Dart.
Early B body interior/exterior trim is harder to find.
Me, I'd take the early B.

I am kind of prejudiced, but even though I race an A Body, if the 63 is a two door it would be my choice. I had a really nice one in college and I still miss it.

That is providing both cars are in equal condition.

I would expect some parts to be harder to find with the 63 Plymouth.

Nothing against the A bodies really, but I'd go w/ the '63 B body.

LOL about the E body car show comment! I've had a bunch of people tell me I shouldn't be racing my cuda (while in the staging lanes no less) and that it should be sitting in a garage instead. I just laugh and put my right foot through the firewall.

I have all three type(A,B and Ebody)cars now, I have raced and cruised all three body style over the years.
I don't like E body so my race car(1970 Cuda S/P car runs high 8.s in the 1/4 mile) is for sale, what do you want to the car you get to do for you? work
My 1969 dart is a original non number matching 383 4 speed car, it is for sale also work
I've owned and raced several 1963 Plymouth M.W. Belvederes, one hardtop and one sedan, I liked both cars up My current 1963 Plymouth Fury is under construction and will end up being a street cruiser that will eat up most new cars on the street devil It will have a 1968 K member and a pump gas stroker 413 truck block that is 4.250 bore with a 4.150 stroke crank with 440 Source heads and a Eddy RPM intake with a 1965 pushbutton 727. Hopefully the motor will make close to 600 HP on Oregon pump swill on a engine dyno and run really good in the car luck
Can you go drive both cars now to see if and how you like them ? If so do that first up scope

I agree as I would go with the 63 which is what I did. I had A-bodies most of my life but when I got the chance to get this 63 Sport Fury I had to jump on it. I figure the B-body is the older guys car since its easier to work on and the A-body is tighter and easier for a younger man to get to all the bolts. grin But I have always loved the 63 Plymouth Max Wedge era cars and I built this one as my street/strip car and I enjoy it all the time. Good luck what ever car you decide on. Ron

Remember the '63 8-3/4" has tapered axles and drums, many are seized in place.

iagree
But all things are fixable, some Mouse Milk , heat and the proper puller will remove both sides hammer wrench
The left side, drivers side, is usually stuck worse than the passenger side so do the easy side first and then do the hard one last wrench hammer weld
Good luck up, My 1963 Fury will get a rear end change due to that issue wrench

I think a b-body makes a more balanced car. A- bodies are nose heavy with big blocks. The early b-body would be my choice.
