I am at the point of needing to replace my very nice Original Trim Code L1T Medium Tan perforated headliner in order to duplicate the deletion of the dome light, sun visors and coat hooks that the 1965 A 990 cars had. I contacted R.E.M. Automotive Inc. in Pennsylvania for a sample board but their sample colors of perforated headliner materials are not even close. Does any one who has restored either a real A 990 car or a Tribute car, like I am building, have any other sources that can offer a closer match to my original headliner ( see attached photo )? Any constructive feedback is appreciated.

Thanks Moparts

Try these guys. They sent me out samples for my 64 dodge and they were correct for my application. They will send samples out right away. Good Luck, Scott

Thanks Scott,
I just e-mailed SMS, so hopefully I will receive a sample of the headliner material that I need.

Hey Chris,

It is good to hear from you again...Gary Ball probably has the perforated headliner material, but it appears that he has some health issues and is temporarily MIA ( missing in action ). Derrick Engleman ( crazymoparguy ), also from Indiana, probably also has the perforated headliner material. From my research, it appears that most of these midwestern suppliers ( Ball, Engleman and possibly Jim Kramer ) all get their headliner material supplies from R.E.M. Automotive in Annville, Pennsylvania. R.E.M. sent me a perforated headliner material color chart yesterday. Unfortunately, nothing on their color chart is even remotely close to the Trim Code L1T Medium Tan original perforated headliner material that is still in place in my car. Last night I spoke to Jim Schild. Jim is the author of the Authenticity Guide - 1965 Dodge and Plymouth Hemi Super Stock reference book for these 1965 A 990 cars. Jim and most other " big name " restorers of real A 990 cars all purchased their original headliner materials from SMS. If SMS is good enough for Jim Schild and most other " big name " restorers, they are good enough for me. SMS is located in Oregon. I ordered a sample of Trim Code L1T Medium Tan last evening from SMS and I spoke to them again this morning to confirm that a sample is being mailed to me on Monday, 3/30/09. When I get my fabric sample from SMS, I will let you know how closely it matches the original L1T perforated material that is still in my car.

OK...

When I did my A990 interior two years ago I bought my headliner from Kramers. Unfortunately it was the last one of a group that they had custom dyed to match the L1T color. It matched the original material and color perfectly. Perhaps Kramer can give you a heads up on the source they used . They were not going to order any more at that time simply because the custom dying was too costly. I think I paid $350.
