truck 143T 'wheel. Not sure of the yr/app. Not sure what yr 400 or 440 will go in front of it (for my 65 D100). will the balance be an issue/? Thank you for your time.

Does not look like any external balanced flywheel I've seen for a Mopar V8 engine that was external balanced shruggy

Alright, I'm more of a small block guy but this deal is (potentially) coming together.

Looks like it's going to need a trip to the machine shop anyway so maybe they could check balance?

I've seen non-factory balance jobs that consisted of a bunch of small holes drilled. Not seeing it here though.

As far as balance being an issue, until you know what you are going to run that can't be answered but generally the shop should be able to rebalance as needed.

All manual transmission big blocks had steel cranks to the end of production so if that is a big block flywheel, it should be neutral balance.

six bolt V8 flywheels have the same crank pattern, BB or SB so you can swap then around. No guarantee what that flywheel came off of or what BB he's going to run.

I know when I purchased the whole schebang that it was from a truck BB but my poor record keeping continues to bite me in the ass!. Another issue is I have a complete 400 (had a 727 behind it) but it does not look like there is a drilled hole with the bushing for the input shaft to center in. there is the big register cavity then a smaller "dimple" (like it was drilled with a big drill bit) so that eng will not work as is. Alright we're agreed with it being a neutral balance wheel & aside from the pilot issue if I end up with a cast crank 440 what will I need to do (if anything) to make the balance right? (is a cast crank BB an external balance?) & needs a special wheel?

The only cast crank V8 engine of that era that can run a neutral balance flywheel is the 318.

For the balance of the flywheel, refer to the drawing below, best one I have sorry. Your shop should be able to drill the flywheel to these specs.

For the pilot bearing issue, here's a thread to consider.

It sounds like I need to keep it simple sam & get a forged crank 440 which I'd rather have anyhow. Sniper thanks for the extra input/help on this. I have done that roller bearing deal on a prior situation so that sounds like a plan. Thanks guys!

Did you count the teeth on that flywheel or did you Ass U me it was a 143 tooth?
The reason I'm asking it looks a lot like the 170 tooth hemi flywheels did on the back side work
If it is a larger diameter flywheel for a 12 inch clutch your going to need the correct bell housing and starter for the starter to work on the bigger flywheel scope

Yes it is the 143 tooth wheel. I have the BB bell/used plate & disc & throwout bearing/slave cyl & linkage along with it that I bought in one pkg deal. I can trim the input shaft or drill the crank flange & use the roller bearing & that only leaves the balance issue. I would assume that this is 60's stuff & would go on an internal crank but I dont remember who I bought the stuff from & what year or years he told me the stuff was off of. EDIT I do have a 400 & it looks like I will be getting the 440 back from the 1979 motor home I sold.

Well I went out & counted the teeth on the 'wheel & it is 186 teeth! I got off the ph with the NAPA guy again & he could not find a listing for this. Any thoughts with this new (corrected) info.

Yea that # sounded strange. I will recount it tomorrow (& measure the disc OD dimention) but the disc/hat lined up perfect on the wheel when I set em on there.

I've learn to count in 10 or 20 on large diameter gears like on a flywheel and make a mark every 10 or 20 teeth and then count the teeth total that way scope up

I've been very unfocused on this deal & today I will get out there & count the teeth twice (& write it down!) & take pics of everything.

I got 186 teeth. the disc is 11&3/4". the hyd clutch BB bell/wheel/plate/disc/granny 4 speed (NP435 iirc) are all from a member here but I dont remember who & are a matched set it would appear but I dont remember the year/app but early 60's I would assume. EDIT I have a cast crank '79 440 from a motorhome & I have the correct mts for this to go into my 65D100 pickup
