Just bought some new 5 in. Greg Weld Dragstar rims for the front of my 68 GTX. I currently have 225 70 15"s on the front mounted on 7 in. rims. The tires have alot of life in them & I want to continue to use them. I know that a min. rim width of 6 in. should be used with my front tires. Question is; Has anyone mounted 225 70 15's on a 5 in. rim and are there any downsides of mounting of this. Thanks, Danny

68 GTX Full street trim, solid lifter cammed. Best 11.34 @ 121 mph. 1.72 60 ft. (yeah I know.. my 60 ft. sucks)

-there will be a tendancy for the tire to wear in the middle of the tread
-less tire area contact for road grip
-diminished handling from reduced sidewall stability

The 225 will mount up on the 5" wheel and roll on down the road. At slower speeds you may never notice anything but with more agressive driving don't expect it to behave as well as your old combo.

Ship those 225s to me, I've got some 7" steelies that need rubber!

Thanks for you input B5.. much appreciated. I mounted them last night & the tires look good.

Only downside with the new rims is the center cap will not cover the dust shield. [Edited by Moparts - Keep it clean]...! Only way the cap will fit is to hammer the dust shield against the wheel bearing nut & use a 7/16" wheel spacer! Maybe that is why these rims were so affordable.

I had the same problem with mine last summer.I emailed them and told them it was a stupid design and an easy fix to make the caps deeper.Never got an answer from them.I just cut the center out of the plastic and my dust cover sticks thru.Rocky
