Does anyone know of a place where I can get my 4 piston Bendix calipers rebuilt or restored besides the Ram Man? This is for a high end 69 b body restoration where functionality and originality are very important. They will likely have to be sleeved and Corvettes typically have to be sleeved also. There should be a few Corvette re-builders.

I never got a clear answer to my question on shelf life of seals when I worked at Raybestos, (I was once told 5 years), and I have myself used several decade old NOS seals when restoring some master cylinders. But all in all I'd feel more comfortable using recently manufactured seals rebuilding a hydraulic component, than 50 year old ones! I agree. Not an item you want to blow out on you, LOL.

Thanks for the NOS set, they are nice. BTW, I don't see any reason that they shouldn't work just fine, everything looks new and supple. Matter of fact I'd have less faith in new Chinese made seals than 50 YO American made seals. .02 Your welcome Scott. I agree with your assessment also.

read and decide. Wheaver contemporary parts are manufactured, make sure they are sold by a reputable name brand company. Their liability exposure plays a big role in the quality. fwiw, I would not recommend using 50 year old brake parts, unless perhaps they were stored in optimal conditions. Rubber parts in particular contain silicone that tends to oxidize over time.. Shelf life is noted in this link: https://news.thomasnet.com/companystory/shelf-life-of-rubber-products-20056500

sure looks like bad material, or, old parts. Silicone loss kills rubber parts. Notice how fast modern wiper blades fail. Manufacturers realize the importance of silicone (and carbon black) and can reduce the amount used in parts as a means to introduce design lifespan (or obsolescence). Coating, or storing rubber parts away from ozone (O3) that is an aggressive oxidant. Liquid silicone is pretty good used as a dressing to preserve or restore old rubber parts. Any petroleum based lube, or even silicone brake fluid is perfect to restore/preserve rubber parts. edit: p.s. why the down side up on the castle nut?
