There should be three screws that hold the assembly to the roof. Once you have the mirror in your hand, you'll see a couple screws on the top side that hold a metal plate over the "ball" on top. Those screws could be a little loose or the threads could be messed up. You might be able to slightly bend the metal plate a little to put more pressure on the "ball".

Ditto. I took mine apart and slightly bent the metal plate. All was good afterwards.

Back in the day I would fix these by putting a small piece of tin foil between the plate and the ball.

He didn't indicate which adjuster was loose, The top one or the one on the back of the mirror. if the mirror is "falling" I would think it's the one on the back confused whistling beer

it all comes down to "the angle of the dangle" [biggrin]
depending on how the pieces are angled for the driver to see, it could be either piece that is loose.
it possibly could be the mirror head pivot, but most times, it's the stem that bolts to the roof, and you can tighten that up.
hopefully, the OP will report back and clarify.
beer

Tightening the screws didn’t work for me, removed the retainer, laid it flat on concrete and gave it a couple taps with a hammer to close up the seat area.
