My buddy emails:
I got a problem, could you guys offer up any advice?
After I swapped the K-members in the 1966 Belvy I had changed to the newer style idler arm, after 1966 they went to a through bolt idler arm instead of the stud that came off of the top end of the idler arm. I had put the car together and drove it with the play in the steering rod, but I want to make it right.
Issue:
The idler arm fits loosely into the K-member. When installed I can grab ahold of the steering cross member and physically move it up and down like an inch. I have tried two different idler arms and have the same result.
I have the largest bolt that will fit in the hole and I even tried to put washers in between the idler arm and the capturing bracket on the K-member. Is there some sort of special spacer or different bushing that needs to go in there to take up any play? Could the bracket on the K-member be bent out of whack?
Let me know if you guys have any suggestions.
Thanks,
-Steve
The car is a 1966 Plymouth Belvedere, formerly a slant six car.
The K-frame is from a 1968 Dodge Charger V8 car.
