I'm redoing a 68 Road Runner and trying to mock up and fit my panels. These outer wheel houses fit awful. The flange is no where close to the original. I was wondering maybe if AMD designed these to be a repair part instead of a replacement? The flange has an offset and I've seen at least one article where these were installed with the flange to the outside of the inner panel. The inner wheel houses fit pretty darn good from what I can tell, just clamped in place. All my AMD metal so far other than these outers has fit nice. Any thoughts? I know there were a few fitment issues with original/early releases of the B body and Charger outer wheelhouse wells, are your purchases recent?, and directly from AMD? or another vendor?, are you sure you have the right PN/application/part(s)?

I've seen at least one article where these were installed with the flange to the outside of the inner panel. If this means what I think, that would look like crap !! I bought tubs for my '69 RR last year from Stephen's and the flange did not match the inner tub so the outers needed to be trimmed. I then turned everything over to the guy doing the sheet metal work and he cut the flange lip off completely - that's ok in my application as its being mini tubbed so doesn't have to appear stock.

This replacement from AMD was then welded to the outside of the inner panel Don't understand what you're talking about ... the outer is supposed to be welded to the outer side of the inner tub !!

I have installed the AMD 68-70 Dodge Charger and Coronet outer wheelhouses, and the fitment was darn near perfect. The alignment holes on the flange even matched up to the inner wheelhouses holes perfectly. The flange to the quarter and the flange of the quarter always need a little tapping here and there, to match up perfectly, even on OEM parts. I have also installed the Plymouth outers with no issues.

Sounds to me like you might have coronet parts.

Sounds to me like you might have coronet parts. This what I asked earlier, if the OP had the correct parts, as there's at least 3 possibly 4 outer wheel wheels for the 68-70 2 nd gen B bodies Ply or Dodge, comparing to a website pic is no guarantee that he has the right part in hand either....

This might not help tbe OP but Ill add my two cents. It seemed like the first years of Dodge outer wheel houses from AMD were thicker and heavier than the ones you get now which feel lighter? I dont know which is better but I used one of the first offerings, the heavier ones, and I didnt use the alignment hole. I remember having to rotate the wheelhouse forward until it fit the quarter nice and then once tacked I trimmed the excess from behind the rocker and drilled a new alignment hole. I do have some of the lighter ones as I call em but have yet to use them. But yeah the old inner and new outer fit good on the flange.
