I'm tearing apart an old cast iron, tach drive, point distributor for an RB engine. Does anyone know the method for disassembling the tach drive gear assembly from the housing? I've removed the main shaft and advance weights. All that remains is disassembling the tach drive gear stem.
Wow. You say you have a Sports Fury? Talk about rare.

Dragonslayer, good advice. I don't want to incur more damage trying to service something that may not need service. This distributor still had the block off cap, so the drive gear and unit has never seen load. I'll clean up in the parts washer and see what the gear looks like, then go from there. Thanks.

Hey 62maxwgn, thanks for the support! I agree. I've got two others installed on 2 cars, one I bought new as a snot-nosed 14 year old, and they work great and no need to disassemble those. This one I found at a swap meet in the middle of a milk crate of about 20 mopar distributors and it was not in working order. I'll take my chances with a good solvent tank soak and final clean up with brake cleaner for re-lubing and reassembly.
I need some missing parts; distributor cap clips and the points plate, and the vacuum advance. Any reason you'd think that the parts from a common factory single point or electronic distributor could not be used? I'm going to scavenge parts from either of those and give it a try. I can't see why not as the guts/flyweights/springs/rotor stem look exactly alike. I'll report back as soon as possible.

wrong info .its a 68 hemi A-body SS tach drive distributor.looking for points I "assume" it's a 2875327,regardless the original points that were in that SS distributor were Platinum, very hard to find, designed to work with the rest of that specific ignition system, have two sets I've been hoarding for years..Regular Prestolite dual points will work fine as long as you use the basic coil and condenser. If you use the Platinum contacts with the standard ignition system they will work but a much shorter lifespan, same in reverse by using standard contacts with the complete SS ignition system.
