To remove the wires from the connector...a small, thin, piece of metal or a small pick will do it, just want to release the metal clip inside that is against the plastic connector body.
To do the whole job, the dash stays together and column stays in place...other than the small plastic cover with the two screws at the bottom of the dash covering where the bottom of the column is. You can fish the wires in and out, I simply taped the new wires to cut pieces of the old that I had left in for the job and pulled the wires through. You can and probably do want to remover the metal column cover on the bottom of the column that runs down it’s length, not a big deal.
Do make sure you get the connector assembled correctly, hard to remember which end is up when you are contorted under the dash. Also, sometimes the new switch might have to be tweaked ever so slightly to make sure it engages the steering wheel metal piece that turns off the turn signal. By tweaked, I mean loosening and tightening the screw and sort of leaning the switch against it, another way is to bend the metal piece on the steering wheels slightly.
