Anybody done this ?

Wondering how tight it would be in the engine bay, not including headers because I'm guessing
headers will be it's own special fun. How bad firewall - to - radiator ?

I know a front clip deal would open up a lot.

One of the Gebhart boys has a mean Gremmy. I’m sure Billy will chime in here before long with more details.

We had a hemi gremlin running around here in the late 70s / early 80s. I had nothing to do with it, but as I recall, there didn’t seem to be much done to it. Of course, getting spark plugs out of a hemi is a bit easier than a wedge.

I say go for it. I've got a '73 mercedes with a low deck big block mopar. Its a full moly tube chassis with strut front end. I had a 73 Gremlin X with the 304, was a kick. And yes you will need to fab the headers. But it will work.

I knew a guy that raced at MCIR(Larue,Oh.) years ago that had a 383 gremlin only thing was he didn't have headers in car and ran a stock type manifolds he was around Columbus area if I remember ran 12's and drove it to track. It was a little tight in engine bay but he said he wanted something different.

It's a foot shorter wheelbase than a Duster. Put the engine as far back as possible.

I just read the AMC bore spacing is 4.750.

Also, it appears the deck height is somewhere around 9.21, kind of short.

This Hemi Gremlin build was well documented in color before the PhotoBucket dust-up. I can't recall what, if anything, was done to the engine bay to shoehorn the elephant into place.

First issue is a short trans tunnel opening. So, when you get the big block where it wants to sit in the engine bay, in order to fit the trans, everything is running down hill unless you open it up some. Dale's features an all steel front end, but it is removable and the core support is cut out.
