I am replacing an old timing chain and gear set, with a new Edelbrock doub;e roller set. the old gear(Cam gear) has a off centered hole in it, and then new one does not. The hole in the old one, is drilled at an "Angle" not straight through like a drill press would be able to do. My question is, Is the hole maybe for " Oiling" something, and if so, do I need to have a hole drilled in the new one to match ? thanx. scott

You have to have a hole in the cam gear for the locating dowel on a B/RB camshaft nose. Something doesn't sound right here.

Are you sure it's not an adjustable, offset, advance/retard sprocket? (They are NOT 'gears')

That hole is for lubrication to the back of the gear.

Certainly not for balance, not for (rear side of chain) oiling as the oil drips from the rear(oiling hole) and from the cam bearing as mentioned. I havent seen a pic but I dont know if it's to sling oil forward to the eccentric (which is sorely needed) but it's an extra machining step thats incorporated in there for a good reason(time is money) & money is #1. Wouldn't make sense that they are hung on pegs as they are on the assembly line.
