Try calling several good chassis shops and see what they offer I've seen bare welded chassis offered from around $10,000.00 and up as well as complete finish car minus motor, trans, paint, electrical and plumbing for around $75,000.00 Are there any good local shops near you?

Kind of a loaded question. Will depend on how much work the shell needs before they can start bending tube. A Moly 7.50 car has a lot of tig welding to take care of, and that takes a lot of time. Spending 15-20K is not out of the question.

The Factory Stock Shootout cars are required to be 7.50 certified. Looking up their chassis builders would be provide a list "known" builders to contact and their locations. In Florida,Tim Takash of Belle Isle FL is an experienced, full range chassis fabricator. Tim Takash article.

Chassis car, 3/4, backhalf, stock body, panel car, composite body? How much finish work can you do yourself? Can you TIG to finish details?
$8-10k and up, way up, depending on the answers to those questions.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

I just got mine done. It was $8900.00
25.5 certified And what all was done? Was the car ready to go when you brought it to the chassis shop? Old stuff needed to be cut out? Was the chassis painted, or powder coated?

I was at a chassis shop last week looking at a chrome moly tube chassis build for a S-10. The chassis was bough pre cut with prints for assembly. After it was almost all tig welded together it was time to install the cab. OH $hoot. the main hoop which everything is measured off of is 4" short . At ride height the cab bottom is on the floor. Yes it would be better to buy a already built car that was certified to the spec you want.
it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Probably one of those "chassis shops" that said they could do it for $3k and a case of beer. And the plans were wrong, not their problem.

Like other have said if you can find one already done you can save yourself some money. I've done it both ways and hopefully won't have to again. I bought this one as a roller for 11,500.00 with a 6.50 NHRA cert. New small tire Duster 001 (2) by John Cadamore, on Flickr

You can buy a used car now for 20 cents on the dollar. Maybe a little more for something really nice.

What Al. A said is what's happening to me all these guys selling older molars think that they got gold. It's hard to find a decent deal on any brand tube chassis 4130 car, let alone a mopar body car. That said, I did find my 70 challenger, 4130, full tube chassis, 4 link, strut car on craigslist in Tucson, az for a real good deal. So deals can still be found, but I did a LOT of searching before I found it.
