I saw on GYC that you use a different paint on the top of the dash to eliminate glare.. I'm going to paint mine black. What paint is it you use to stop the glare? Thanks.. 1969 Charger

There is no different paint on the top of the dash. All of the dash frame metal has the same color and finish. Yes.... I don't think GYC paints two different paints....its all suede... Instruments Speciltes sells it... you can reproduce to some extent...

With today's modern paints, it is difficult to get them as flat as necessary without them going toward the gray shade because the flattening agent is white and it takes quite a bit of it.
The original paint also had a bit of texture to further reduce glare.
Master, again and still

But...you have to remove the VIN tag to properly paint the dash, right?
A few people have said not nice things about doing that.

If the condition is good enough it can be carefully taped around, otherwise I have done it, Painted it, re-screened the logo and reinstalled with the correct rivets. Same tag that the car was assigned when new. I don't see a problem with it. Swapping tags? different story What I did. Be prepared to pay for the correct rivets...

A few people have said not nice things about doing that. Who gives a damn what a couple old maids think. Its your car, do as you see fit. As for the rivets, there are some people who think they're rare and ask outrageous prices but I've seen them all over the place for $30 a pair which I think is reasonable. The suede finish can still be mixed by any paint distributor who is still allowed to sell lacquer (the Ditzler code applies to lacquer). You can still buy it in Michigan - not sure which other states. The downside is you have to buy a quart at roughly $100.. I've considered doing this and then repackaging it in smaller quantities.
