Non Mopar but they have this problem too.What would cause this much gap between the collar and wheel.TIA.

If they are assembled correctly, there is no gap

What year car? Pull the cap and switch and there are two sometimes three screws that come loose and if you tighten them up the gap gets smaller.

Try loosing the column to dash mounting bolts & sliding the tube up.

The only thing holding the shaft in position is the snap ring on the top bearing. There is enough slop everywhere else for that shaft to move up in the column if that snap ring has somehow broken or come out.
