I have removed the header, starter, lines and the P/S box is loose. The pin is out of the coupler that is where I am at now.

The box does not seem to want to come out with the coupler still on the input shaft. Is my next step to loosen the steering column and pull back? Or is there a trick to getting it out without taking all the column bolts out?

Just did that yesterday.

You've got to loosen the bolts (two) on each side of the upper part of the column under the dash. Then there's two bolts on either side of the mounting plate at the firewall on the inside of the car.

If you get the column loosened up, it easily should move up and down a few inches.

I then pried the linkage back a little at the gearbox, to make sure it would come free, (about half an inch) and then pulled on the steering wheel from inside the car to unhook the whole thing. At that point the column will want to fall to the floor, so have something handy to keep the wheel propped up.

[edit] and hopefully, you won't have to drop the drivers side header to get the stupid box out, like I ran into late last night. gar!
