Scott, Have you tried to transplant the guts from one of the reproduction units or one of the other Delco solenoids?
Snoopy That's how I have rebuilt the half dozen or so that I have done, pretty easy to do.

Some of the aftermarket ones I have done have a larger ring on the inside top of the housing and the coil from one won't seat far enough to crimp the retainer. The O.E.M. coil is 1 3/4. I have a few aftermarket coils that are 1/4" shorter.Another thing I noticed is that the spade connectors are different on some .The complete solenoid is a O.E.M. Dr1114429,the coil is from a DR1114420.Also O.E.M.

Is there a specified "throw" of the original plunger or does that even make a difference. I would think it would but only if you are using factory tuning procedures (see 1969 Master Tech "Performance" article for example adjustment). Don't solenoids vary in throw and not all are the same? I know there were two differen "throws" for my diesel starter solenoid and had to make sure I got the correct one. Just asking?

Mike, the throw of the solenoid is adjustable. The plunger is threaded into the solenoid weight in the coil.

Bill thanks, but with the "contact" being adjustable does the throw or distance the solenoid travels actually change? Kind of like crankshaft stroke doesn't change with longer or shorter connecting rods.....probably wrong again sorry for that
