Vacuum leak....Might also check the ignition timing particularly initial.

I've heard them do that a few times. Absent any significant vacumn leak or fuel related problems, I always suspected the mechanical advance springs in the dizzy are see-sawing the timing and interacting with the engine vacumn it can pull at idle are the cause of the cycling, but I don't know for sure.
What strength advance springs are you running? What's the mechanical advance amount in the distributor in crankshaft degrees? You're not running vacumn advance are you? What's your initial timing set at?

What intake and carburator are you running? Big lift cam with overlap... ie.. Low vacuum puts a major burden on timing and carburator.. Just my $0.02..

the distributor is locked @ 30deg the heads arent milled. im gonna go pick up new v/c gaskets and put it back togather i found a couple of loose valves. could that have been causing it? i will pick up another can of brake clean to check vacuum leaks as well. thanks for the replies so far.

thats just where i had it yesterday normally i run it at 35. and i have a start and nitrous retard on my msd. oh and the intake is leaking pretty bad. im gonna let the motor cool then replace the gaskets. would the intake leak cause it to be lean under a load as well. it only ran like 14.0 afr with a load on it. carb is an 1150 95 square no pvs. (ya i know its too big i was just running it too se)
nitrous is like a really hot chick with an std you want to hit it but youre affraid of the outcome.

What do you mean by the intake was leaking? Do you mean vaccum leaking when you sprayed brake cleaner on it or oil leaking OUT of it like end rails? Those intakes can be a bear to seal and apparently mine might still be pulling a bit of oil which might explain all the needed jet. Call me if you want so we can chat......I`ll pm you my number.
