My old 74 long bed stepside fuel gauge reading has gone from erratic to non existent, I've checked all the connections so it now looks like it's time to drop the tank and pull the sump (all original). In preparation for what I think I will find I've been looking for a replacement and don't like what I'm seeing...none...Dodge Connection list one for a 77-80...anyone know if it will work or is adaptable?

It is under the bed between the frame rail and the driveshaft, extends from just behind the front wall of the bed almost to the rear end.

My son prior to taking the truck to prom a few years ago...his dog photo bombed him at the last second. Notice fuel filler neck location.

Emailed Dodge Connection, they said the one they list won't work, I'm pulling the tank this weekend to inspect...never tried restoring/repairing one...is it even possible?

Yes they can be redone if they haven't rusted away. Bad float can be replaced with a ford float.

I'm working on I think a similar tank, 73 d200. I found the sending unit to be bad (same high resistance at any position) so I'm planning to put an aftermarket (Dorman) sending unit somewhere nearby the original unit and retain the original unit for the sump. I'll be using an aftermarket fuel gauge where I can configure the ohm ranges, so I'm not worried about having a 73-10 sending unit.

But I thought if I was, I could probably get a different Dodge truck sending unit around 12" deep and try to cobble it together.

That's kinda where my head's at right now, gotta figure something out, my son wants to take it back to Savannah with him after Christmas leave and I don't want him attempting that with no gas gauge.

If you don't get it fixed leave a 5 gallon can of gas in the bed.

Check out Vansauto.com they sell reproduction stainless steel fuel pickup sending units for the side mount tanks, also the Ramcharger/Trailduster tanks.
