I am restoring my 70 Challenger, and would like to repaint the seat belt latches. They are rusty, scratched, and the paint is peeling. Has anyone ever tried taking apart the spring loaded latch to clean these up? I don't how to do a good job without disassembly. Thanks, moondog.

The pin is easy to take apart. One side is fixed like the head of a bolt and the other side has a hole in the pin and the head of the end cap has a protrusion that sticks in the hole. Gently pry on one end until you find which end is the one that comes apart. I use two chisels 180 apart and they pry right off.

Thanks fastmark! It was exactly like you said. Taking the rest apart and bringing tops to powdercoat. Looks like fun, though getting spring back in.
