Just had ( another) long conversation with Howard @ Trick flow. Head will be out 1st of Dec time frame. They are done with the “improvements” they made to the head. He wouldnt say what they were, but will at SEMA next week. I asked about a bigger valve. He said they tried a 2.08 and didnt see anything worth chasing. The news i had hoped for is indeed true. They have a single plane intake for the heads. He said it might lag the heads by a little bit. The intake will be at SEMA as well Said they are well aware guys are planning winter upgrades/ builds so they are very up on the wheel about getting this stuff out. Definately plenty of metal to be moved to make the head “ bigger” Have fooled around with Harland Sharp rocker gear playing with the head. He wasnt sure if the rockers they use with unique eddie head part number was the recommendation or not So we will know next week what they did to upgrade the head during SEMA

I'm much more interested in the intake than I am the heads.
Just because you think it won't make it true. Horsepower is KING. To dispute this is stupid. C. Alston

It usually takes Trick Flow about a year to ship parts which they introduce at SEMA. I went thru this with the 240 heads, 270 heads and the FE heads. They announce at SEMA but the heads don't ship until the following July or August. They should be out soon then. The head was first introduced at SEMA a year ago As i posted several improvements were made in this past year

Talked again just a minute ago to Howard at Trick flow as SEMA started today. Gonna have to wait till tomorrow as Trick Flow booth wont be setup till then so he isnt allowed to tell whats going on till tomorrow. He did confirm they have a single plane for the heads that will be available shortly after the heads. Think i am going to buy a set bare and have my guy look them over and outfit them. Maybe make them better The roller spring head they are going to offer wont clear my Harland Sharps, but there is a suitable spring that will if i go roller. Not sure yet if i will or not, or use the flat tappet thats in my 360 or another flat tappet. But leaning more and more to keeping my current 360 intact as a backup and putting this trick flow top end on my 418 flattop shortblock.

Well, secret is out. New heads will also work on magnum block HS will offer a new rocker for magnum, pushrod oil. Standard HS rocker on LA Intake is single plane. 5 1/8 tall. 3000-7000 intended rpm range. Coming out around 1st of Dec Pricing should be similar to 240 BB head

Great news for guys looking for a bolt on head with flow numbers in the 300 CFM area. So are you saying they took the LA style head and modified it for both the LA and magnum style rockers? If so that will be interesting to see with the rocker-stands. When the Winter custom car show start up in January and February round up a 10% off coupon and bring the price down 200.00

I must be missing something.
Why wouldn’t the heads in LA form be able to fit a Magnum block?
You’d just use rockers that work with pushrod oiling, like T&D or Comp Ultra Pros.
Does the “Magnum” version use stud mounted rockers? If so, couldn’t they have positioned the studs so that existing rockers(Chevy, Ford, Pontiac, etc) fit so you didn’t need “special” rockers from HS?

The “ preferred” rockers the guy at Trick Flow mentioned are Harland Sharp. They are in the process of making a setup to pushrod oil for these heads and Magnum block. Both setups are shaft The new intake being offered works with either block

I don’t understand what the significance of “the magnum” block is here, other than it doesn’t have the oiling holes for the LA style heads. In other words....... why couldn’t I put a set of J heads on a magnum block if I used T&D rockers with pushrod oiling?

Exactly....... so I’m wondering what “feature” has been added to the head...... that you can’t already do with any LA head.

New heads will also work on magnum block Last I looked......... the “block” doesn’t have intake bolt holes. I have no idea what TF is actually bringing to the table, but the info that has been provided in this thread made it seem like there was something “extra” done to the head to facilitate it being used on a magnum block....... to which my response is....... won’t any SB head fit on a magnum block?

I think that is just the marketing dept anticipating lost sales from people that mistakenly think because a Magnum head is "different" than an LA head, the block must be different too. Think "wide block 318" AKA Poly 318. There are a large number of people that will not be convinced that the only major difference between a Poly and an LA, or a Magnum for that matter is the cylinder heads and the intake and exhaust manifolds. TF states the obvious like it's something special, Hotrod publishes it and it then becomes fact, orders pour in... Kevin
