Hello folks,

Would like to hear of you use any extra weight on trunk to improve your hook?

Br,

My ex-SS/IA Duster still has its lead-filled tail lamps. Plus 2 batteries in the spare tire well and another 50 lbs of lead in bar form. So, yeah.
Can't recall the guy's name - embarrassing as we both had fairly similar cars - but used to tell me he ran 300 - 400 lbs in the trunk and his car was quicker that way. For sure it put out big wheelies and was fun to watch.
My car's certainly not at the leading edge of technology, as the chassis & some of the drivetrain is as it was back in the day; but the car's also pretty light in the front, lots of old tricks there.
Try putting another 100 in the back & see. Then 200. The car will tell you what it likes.

Changing the balance makes a difference. Perhaps some time and/or money spent taking weight off the nose? That would improve the weight distribution and make the car lighter. A win-win.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Absolutely! Especially helpful for consistency on marginal tracks. Many years ago I put about 60lbs of ballast in the trunk of my 2,800 lb bracket Challenger and my win ratio went up noticeably.

But don't use weight as a band-aid to cover for an inefficient suspension. Continue to work on that, if possible. Track prep can be an issue. But the less you spin, the faster you will be, and more consistent.

Is your battery in the trunk yet?

Yes, battery on trunk. I was racing old slicks and spinning too much. Them added some weight and reduced 60" a lot. Now I've got new tires and was thinking if I will still need the extra weight or not. I think theres no ready answer... Will have to test what car like more...

Test, test and test some more to learn all you can wrench up grin
Don't forget air pressure testing also, start off high and raise it until the tires spin and then go the other way also up scope
