What is the minimum track temp needed to race a higher HP car? I didn't haul 3 hours to an event because the temps are in the low 40's and wanted some opinions on this work

37 degrees right now at Norwalk and we have been racing for at least 1 1/2 hours. In the 40’s yesterday and over 1100 cars made passes. Top gun cars are up soon with Dragster in a he 3”s and door cars in my he low 4’s. Been a cold azz 9 days at the lake sidetrack.

I think 45* TRACK temp is minimum. Air temp can be lower.

Well,It was raining yesterday at 4:30 AM when I woke up.The thought of packing up in the rain with the chance of rain at the mountain and 40* temps today weighed in my decision not to go.I'm misable down
My next trip down the track will be my 1st 8 second pass whistling

I went yesterday and got one pass in .
Started raining just as I got back to my pit spot .
They tried to dry it and called it around 2:30 .

Heading home it was blue sky and sunny lol

You probably made the right choice Al, it was freezing up there. Pretty much stayed around 35 degrees all morning. Completely overcast with snow flurries! I left before 1:00, too cold to stand there all day.

And just like 493demon said, as soon as I left it got sunny. Temps remained in the low 40s until I got down to Westchester though.

Just because the air temperature is 40 degrees doesn't mean the track is. At Mid Michigan 3 weeks ago temperatures were in the mid 40s. Cloudy but the starting line was 78 degrees. Pits were about 60 degrees.

Al the wind was howling, moving the cars around a bunch at the top end. Probably a wise decision on your part. Track hooked pretty well, Ted ran a 10.85 but not really apples to apples. Billy ran Flashback which he said got exciting at the top end with the wind.

When I was racing I liked it to be 55* or above
due to the fact that I was running E-85 and
below that it got hard to start in the morning
so that was just a personal thing.. I didnt like
to carry just gas in a squirt bottle.. track
temp was better also
