Hey all,
I know I havent been on for awhile, life and stuff, but I am here to ask a question or two.
Anyway, I am re-sealing an 89 318 for my 72 Fury driver. The motor is out of an 89 Diplomat AHB. I got the pan off and on the rail near each cylinder are markings. Most of them on the drivers side are a "B" with an "X" in a circle, but one is a "C". Same on the other side except on one there is a "C" instead of the "B".
Anyone know what they mean? This motor is already an anomoly, it has a 9/87 casting date but the front is stamped 9M318 which is an 89 motor. Everything else is stamped mid 88.

Piston sizes. Chrysler had select fit pistons in .00025" increments. Look in the service manual for the piston sizes.

My 87 Diplomat's 318 has the same kind of markings. As I understand it, there are indications of bore sizing as related to piston fitment during factory assembly. Apparently, there is more to it than just hitting 3.91", A is tightest, B next tightest, C least tight. Not sure what the exact specs that correspond to the A, B, C markings other than they all are still considered standard bore. Mine had a lot of A's.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.
