Hi everyone, I'm wanting a recommendation on a new solid roller cam for my max effort pump gas 440. Here are the specs on my current setup. Engine runs great on 91 octane and I want to keep it like that.
-440 10.8:1 compression
-2" primary headers
-heavily ported big valve iron 906 heads
-holley 850HP carb and holley street dominator intake
-current cam http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam-specs/Details.aspx?csid=748&sb=2
-4500 stall and 3.73 gears
-3340lb car

So far this engine has been 12.4@108mph at 8500ft DA.( still need to hook up the trans brake)

I'm thinking over the winter the winter ill do a tunnel ram or a victor intake as the street dominator intake I feel is not letting the engine breathe as it needs.
What cam would you guys recommend to make this motor a little more powerful but yet retain 91 octane?

Thanks!

Have a Comp cams custom grind 264/264@0.050" HXL lobes, 112 LSA, .446 lobe lift, 0.714" valve lift when using 1.6:1 rocker arms. $250

it dont ping on 91 at 10.8 SCR? But you are elevated. Is your exhaust unrestricted (possibly an area to improve)?

Hey Robert, Long time no see!
It doesn't ping with 38 degrees timing which is good. I raced both with mufflers and by taking the whole exhaust off and I gain .35 ET and gained 4mph, I was shocked to see that. But this engine/trans came out of a duster that was running 11s@119mph at my same track. I think the induction system is restricting it as well as me not using the trans brake. I will be using the trans brake next year!

Do you know where the cam is degree on the intake lobe separation angle?
If it is straight up ,retarded or dot to dot I would degree it first before changing it out so the cam has between 3 to 6 degrees advanced on the intake lobes and then change the intake for a better one scope thumbs
What size exhaust system are you using?
My message is I think that cam is good, the same specs on a roller cam will probably be noticeably better, especially with more lobe lift up
What ratio rockers are you using now? work devil grin
The cam specs.(solid roller cam) for my old pump gas stroker motor was from Comp was 260@.050 with .420 lobe lift on the intake(I don't remember the lobe numbers, sorry blush) with 266 @.050 on the exhaust with .409 lobe lift ground on 108 LSA installed 107 to 106 on the intake lobes, that cam flat pulled form 650 RPM to 7800 RPM with the low deck six pack and iron heads with 9.25 to 1 compression ratio and the same with the later SR M.W. heads and Indy 400-3 intake with a Holley #9375 non HP 1050 CFM Dominator carb. and 10.78 to 1 compression ratio up boogie
I used a set of Harland Sharp 1.65 ratio rockers also on that motor, that motor liked all the changes I made on it, all of them thumbs

Hey Cab, no I don't know the degree. This winter I'm going to pull the motor apart and see what I can improve. I got the motor from a guy that had it under his tarp for 2yrs because the car rolled over while racing, hense the times he gave me when he used to run this motor.
I'm using fenderwell headers, 2"x3.5" collectors that go into dual 3" that exit before the rear tires.
I'm using 1.5 roller rockers smile
