Ok I broke a stock block now am looking at aftermarket . I have a unused World block I can buy . Here in Oz ! It is a 4.310 bore still in crate . What if any issues should I be aware of ? I will use my current 4.25 crank , rods etc and go to 4.350 bore thanks in advance

Don’t bore it any bigger than you have to. Those things are kinda rare. yes they are . at 4.350 , current piston , leaves a lot . Not sure there is a standard bore piston to suit 4.25 stroke and 7.1 rod . Would be custom ? Cost is then through the roof . Its a 15 hr drive interstate , have to rent a van But if is as described will be worth it Tex

440Source shows 2 different dished pistons and a flat top for your combo. They also say that this is the same as their 470 low deck piston. That might give you different avenues to check out your way. I have heard that Icon makes the pistons for 440Source, so they aren't a bad piece. Icon pistons are also available through Summit.

One of the tech guys at Icon told me that also several years back, I had called to see if they would make custom pistons, they wouldn't They gave me a part # for one of their pistons that I hadn't seen that worked out real well for that build

Quite simply, check EVERYTHING on those. Deck height, bolt holes,. bosses, alignment,. thickness', you name it., check it. They had a lot of junk they put out. Most of it serviceable AFTER everything was fixed, but just look at everything very closely.Since your on the land of Oz, its nice to even have a chance to get a new iron block, but beware.

Ok thanks guys . Dragula , I presume you just treated that like a chev ? and used bolt sealer . Compwedge , I will have to give a good visual . And cross my fingers a little . Then send it off to machine shop .
Like everyone I am caught between a rock and a hard place .
A KB is just too much $ and I cannot justify it . This is spendy enough ! At least this is a new block I can hold - not a hand full of smoke and wishes . I will email ICON to see if they do a stock piston

The earliest 3944 (+ others) wedge blocks have a ditch machined next to the motor mount ears (presumably for bolt head clearance). As a result early Wedge blocks can POTENTIALLY be thin in that area. (From water jacket to outside of block, right next to the stock motor mounts). Most of them are fine. Most. But, take a look.
If you have this early variant with the ditch, definitely don't be afraid to run it...Just use a motor plate whether on a dyno or in a car.
If you have a sonic tester with a flat probe (personally I just have an ebay cheapie, not the big baller lab $tuff), you may find the probe will fit into the ditch to give a better idea of thickness...It might be 3/8 thick which may seem good to go! Well, even if the material is sufficiently thick, the ditch machining was finished in a very "squared off" manner, and it is a stress riser.
Now...If you have the later version without the ditch (I'd have to go and check on the exact date we fixed it, but I believe it was 2008 to early 2009), that's a better block than the older one. However after seeing how much the side of the block distorts....I'd really recommend a motor plate for most apps.
Needless to say there is a old story or 14 surrounding this.
The Hemi never had this exact issue, as the mounts were completely chopped off.
Check the block for a machining date (stamped/etched in) and report back if possible.

Check the block for a machining date (stamped/etched in) and report back if possible. thanks Zippy , I could always use the hemi style lower mounts ? If this was the case ? And just use schumaker conversion mounts . I really do not want a motor plate . I am off to look/buy next week . Tex

Unfortunately many early blocks also have what appears to me to be deliberate carving in that specific area for really no reason other than to make it impossible to use hemi style mounts.
You've been around, and I am sure your best judgement will be enough.
Thought it might help to put those small details out there since it's not really widely known stuff.
Good luck!

Zippy , thank you again , plus everyone else . Your information/help is priceless .
Brad , I saw that block . That's the price you pay if that's all there is . I do not want to risk a worse breakage result

There's a guy in Ohio who has been advertising a new World 4.50"-bore iron block for MONTHS on RacingJunk. At his $6500 listed price, I'm sure he's praying somebody buys it before the new KB blocks are readily available. Wow that is a lot. I was planning to sell my race engine this year but I was going to ask roughly that number for my short block. The short block is a World cast iron block with a Callies crank and Oliver rods. If people are asking that for a bare block maybe I should up my number.
